We had the good fortune of connecting with Carla Williams Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carla, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?

If I’m being perfectly honest, the most important factor behind my success and the success of many of the brand owners I’ve helped is simply showing up and being yourself.

Putting yourself out there while being authentic and embracing the things that make you uniquely you is really the thing that can put you in front of customers and ahead of the competition.

You see, the hardest part for most entrepreneurs isn’t getting paid; it’s first allowing themselves to be seen; but creating that visibility allows them to reach their desired level of success.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

I’ve worked in the field of Communications my entire life, particularly in the field of media. Having been on both sides working with an agency in the media department and working with the media as a journalist, I have a unique understanding of what the press is looking for which is why getting persons featured comes so naturally to me.

I also am blessed with a creative mind as well as a background in strategic marketing, so I not only tell people how to get featured but show to incorporate publicity into their overall marketing campaign.

A perfect example of this is back in 2020 during the global pandemic. It was a very difficult time and riddled with uncertainty. While most people decided to ‘wait things out’ I showed up EVERYWHERE!!
I strategically utilized the media to help inspire, motivate, and educate the masses.

– I showed up to mompreneurs who were struggling with working from home with kids at home.

– I showed up to business owners giving advice on how to pivot during uncertain times.

– I showed up to entrepreneurs showing them how to use publicity to increase their visibility and credibility using traditional media.

– I showed up to large corporations giving them strategies on how to navigate the crisis.

I did all this using the power of publicity and the media.

Magazines, Newspapers, Radio, Television, Podcasts, Online forums……you name it, I was there; because one thing I understood is that we were not in control of a lot of things but we were in control of who saw and heard us and I wholeheartedly believed that it was the people who got seen and heard is who would have been remembered when things got back to some type of normalcy.

So said; So done

My visibility skyrocketed. I started teaching people how to use public relations and publicity in their business; clients wanted to work with me. I have since gone on to grace international stages, won awards, and listed in the top 40 of global public relations companies dedicated to start-ups.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

My BFF would need to book a ticket for Carnival. There’s a reason why they call Trinidad & Tobago Carnival the Greatest Show on Earth.

I’d give them an authentic local experience for sure!!

In the morning we’d head out to get the unofficial breakfast of Trinis: doubles
Then we’d go around the Queen’s Park Savannah (the largest roundabout in the world) to take in the sights and drink cold coconut water straight from the nut.
On our way to the savannah, we’d visit the Lady Young Lookout, The Botanical Gardens, The Hollows and more incredible sights.

At Lunchtime we’d partake in some local dishes. They’ll have their choice of Roti, Curry Crab Dumplings, Cou Cou, Callaloo, & Fish, Pelau with Cole Slaw. and more. Trust me, we Trinis could cook

Nightlife will be filled with carnival parties, events, and shows that go on all night.
Carnival weekend would be nonstop with parties on Carnival Friday night,
Kiddies Carnival Saturday morning where the children take the roads,
Panorama 0n Saturday night where you’ll be entertained by our national instrument.

Sunday would be events and parties that take you right through to the start of Jouvert at 2 am on Monday morning. This is where you come out to the streets to ‘play mas’ while covered in mud and paint. The dirtier you are, the more fun you’ll have.

Right after Jouvert is Monday mas where masqueraders take the street then there’s Monday night mass, events, and parties all Monday night.
Tuesday is what we call ‘pretty mas’ that’s when masqueraders take the street and go straight until last lap.

During their stay, we’d have to visit Maracas for some Bake & Shark, take a tour of the Caroni Swamp to see our National Bird, and visit San Fernando Hill.

Then, after all that parting in Trinidad, we’re heading to our sister isle Tobago for a cool down with more beaches, more food, and lots of relaxation.

It will be epic.

Oh, my goodness……there are so many but if I had to narrow it down, I would give a shoutout to
