We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Stawicki and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am originally from Los Angeles, California, and I consider myself a California native. However, I moved to Atlanta, Georgia when I was six years old. Since then, I have lived back and forth from Georgia to California. I have always been fascinated by the entertainment and beauty industry. Ever since I was really little, I always had an eye to find mistakes in film and it started as a game for me to find the set light in the sunglasses or the continuity mistakes. Eventually, I was drawn to how things were made and the talent that went behind them.
In my early teenage years, I grew to love all things beauty. I started playing with my mom’s makeup in the mirror and experimenting with different products and techniques. From then on I was obsessed with makeup, I studied different products and formulas and grew a vast knowledge of cosmetics. I would practice looks on my friends and family whenever I had the opportunity.
After high school, I went straight into cosmetology school. I learned a lot about myself, the industry, and my goals. This time in my life showed me how to face adversity with strength and positivity. By graduation in 2018, I was determined to pursue my goals in the TV and film industry doing hair and makeup.
Working in salons, I have built relationships with fellow hair and makeup artists. These relationships have helped me grow even more and led to me following my dreams and moving back to Los Angeles to work in the TV and film industry. Along the way, I have done editorial, commercial, and film projects which have been a dream come true.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I pride myself on being skilled in creating contemporary style makeup looks. Something that I am also very proud of in my work is my relationships with my clientele. I work hard to create meaningful relationships with those I work with to style more personalized looks. I am excited to meet new people of all backgrounds as well as create new and innovative looks.
What sets me apart from others is that I have a great relationship with my clientele. Building a meaningful clientele was not easy but so extremely worth it. It takes a lot to get a client to trust you, you basically have one try to prove your skill and knowledge to them. Finding new clients can be challenging too because there are so many great makeup artists and stylists out there. I find that gaining trust and full transparency with a client in the beginning is key to building a relationship. Off the bat, I ask about their skin type and concerns to make sure I can achieve their needs and goals. I often have to remind my clients that most inspirational photos are touched up or enhanced in some way. Being open and honest with my clients gives them confidence in my work and ensures they are comfortable when they are in my chair. I strive for excellence and getting to know my clients’ expectations and personality helps with that. Something the world should know about me is that as much as I love doing hair and makeup, I love meeting new people and studying other aspects of film.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take my girls to Malibu for a little getaway.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom, dad, and brother have been extremely supportive and pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and move back to Los Angeles to pursue my career. My aunt and uncle have kindly welcomed me with open arms into their home in Los Angeles to give me the opportunity to kickstart my career. Along with my family, my friends have been a constant support system and encouraged me to keep chasing my dreams.
