Meet Kassandra Vizcaino | Baker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kassandra Vizcaino and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kassandra, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
As a child I was always very creative. My parents would take my siblings and I to painting classes and I absolutely loved it. I also loved to draw, I had sketch books where I would draw, I would paint designs on my walls, anything to do with that, I was into it. Once I started baking I found that I could still bring my artistic side to my career,
With cakes and cookies you get to play with colors when making your icing. I still draw, when I have to design custom cookies and cakes. i creative figures with fondant, just as an artist would create figurines with clay. I get to use app my artistic abilities but just in a slightly different way. So being able to still use that artistic side of me into my baking is the main reason I chose this path. Being able to make something that not only tastes delicious, but also looks beautiful is my greatest joy!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I make custom cakes, cookies and other desserts as my career. I love this path I’ve chosen because it allows me to use my creativity in a different way than modern art. I get to design custom cakes and cookies that will be a part of someone’s life and memories, for special events like birthdays and weddings. I love being able to bring joy and admiration to those who order from me and bringing their visions to life with desserts. And making something tasty is a bonus!
It has not been easy getting to where I am today, some days have been more challenging than others but I’ve always found a way to push myself to get to through it. Practice makes perfect, so I’ve always told myself that no matter where you are you can always get better as long as you practice and that’s exactly what I do. I search for new techniques, I try out new recipes, I research what products will be the best and at the end of the day I give my best and try harder with every order I get to make it perfect!
I just want others to know that this business of mine is so important to me. It’s not just a baking business, it’s not just a cake, it’s not just an order of cookies. I take so much pride into what I do and I always give my best to make these desserts memorable and beautiful and will continue to do so for a very long time

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is such a tough question because there are so many wonderful things to do around here. Here in california I love that the beach is one hour away, the mountains are an hour away in the opposite direction, and Disneyland is only a 40 min drive!
So I would definitely take them to any amusement park they’d want to check out, one day we could go to the beach, the following day we can explore the mountains. I would take them to some local breweries because those are my favorite! And of course, to all the food markets
Since I participate in local markets as well, I would absolutely take them to a few markets where you can buy a variety of products, desserts and lots of food!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this shout out to my family, they’ve always been my number one supporters throughout my journey. They’ve always pushed me to be better, and have always admired what I do, they’ve taking time out of their lives to support me when Ive needed it and I know they’ll always be there until the end!
I also want to say thank you to everyone who admires my work, whether it’s been customers, vendor friends, market hosts I also wouldn’t be where I am now if it wasn’t for them, they’ve kept my business going and encouraged me to keep this business going
