Meet Matt Shores | Owner, FOH Engineer, Lighting Designer.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Shores and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matt, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my business was totally organic, having worked in my industry for several years prior It felt very naturally slowly acquiring the assets (in my case, sound and lighting equipment) necessary to start my company. I began running events out of the back of car, packing it to the brim, and almost breaking several windows in the process.

What should our readers know about your business?
I started Streetlight Events over six years ago after working for several years as a sound and lighting engineer in the concert/corporate production world. The beginning of the business was very natural, I started by creating light shows and sound reinforcement for local bands in LA. This soon gave birth to diving into the corporate production world and private events industry for, weddings, conferences, etc..
I have always enjoyed my job, and as they say, by doing that I never work a day in my life. Live event production is the perfect blend of creativity and real world challenges. Every day you’re being kept on your toes by having to solve problems and delivery a quality service to your clients.
What sets us apart from others is our fantastic team members, we strive for perfection and don’t settle for less. We try to create an uplifting work environment where our team can flourish and provide their best selves to the job.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way is, don’t stress over things out of your control. Focus on the task at hand and remember to prioritize what really matters.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Take a trip to Griffith park for some incredible views and great hiking! Grab lunch at Home Cafe In los Feliz, followed by some Vegan Ice Cream from Jeni’s Icecream.
My favorite part of the city is Echo Park/Silverlake. Theres tons of great music venues, restaurants and cafes.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are several critical people who have helped me on my journey. Daniel Redwood, he inspired and encouraged me to move to LA in the first place. Josh Benton, PM of Knitting Factory NoHo, and touring FOH, he gave my first job as a sound engineer and taught me the fundamentals of my industry. Brad Kemp, owner at Stage Labs, he gave me my first freelance job, and even helped me with equipment for my first few shows as a new company.
