Meet Jessica De Leon | Owner, Founder, Intuitive Acupuncturist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica De Leon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
At La Luz Wellness, we firmly believe that wellness should not be a luxury. Unfortunately, numerous barriers prevent many individuals from accessing the care they need. That’s why our donation-based Community Clinic was born – to break down those barriers and create a space where everyone can experience the benefits of holistic healing.
Every month, we open our doors to the community, offering 30-minute traditional acupuncture and 30-minute cupping sessions. The best part? It’s donation-based only, allowing individuals to pay what they can afford. We are committed to ensuring that cost is not a barrier to receiving quality care.
But it doesn’t stop there. We believe in the power of giving back. That’s why we donate 50% of the proceeds from our Community Clinic to a different organization each month. By participating in our clinic, not only do you gain access to much-needed care, but you also contribute to a noble cause that benefits the community as a whole.
Our Community Clinic goes beyond acupuncture and cupping. Sometimes, we have other practitioners join us, offering additional modalities such as massage or sound bath sessions. This creates a unique and enriching experience for our patients, further promoting their well-being.
We believe that by highlighting our donation-based Community Clinic, we can inspire others to prioritize wellness and advocate for accessible healthcare in their communities. Our mission is to create a ripple effect of positive change, one compassionate act of care at a time.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
For me (Owner, Founder, Bruja Acupuncturist, Jessica De Leon), there was never any doubt that I would open up my own practice. I founded my business in June of 2017 immediately after passing the CA State Boards, and originally named it When in Tao. My hope was to honor the Taoist roots of this medicine, while making it more accessible to those who need it. I rented a rather cozy 2 treatment room office that I sublet with a friend. I found myself growing my private practice, volunteering at clinics, and working with non profits to help better the community. But it wasn’t long before I realized my business name I were not on the same page. I was evolving as a practitioner and business owner. Some would seek us out for physical/mental/emotional support that Traditional acupuncture offers, while others would seek us out specifically for the spiritual work that happens with esoteric acupuncture. My passion and practice of Esoteric Acupuncture continued to grow. I began to incorporate more and more of it into my daily treatments- which, to be honest, felt disingenuous to both Traditional Chinese Medicine and the name of my business. Additionally, through my work with these clinics and non profits, I realized how few Spanish speaking acupuncturists there were. My community longed for someone they could trust and begin this journey to wellness with.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely, there are several wonderful people and sources that have played a significant role in my journey. First and foremost, I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to my amazing husband who has been my rock and biggest supporter. His unwavering belief in me and my dreams has been a constant source of strength. I also owe a great deal of credit and recognition to my friends and family who have stood by me throughout this adventure. Their encouragement, love, and willingness to lend a helping hand have made all the difference.
In addition, I want to extend my gratitude to the various clinics and non-profit organizations I’ve had the privilege to collaborate with. Working together, we’ve been able to make a positive impact on the community, and their dedication to the same goals has been truly inspiring. I’d like to acknowledge the wisdom and insights I’ve gained from books and teachings along the way. They have expanded my horizons and guided me in new directions.
All of these incredible individuals and sources have woven their threads into the tapestry of my story, and I am deeply thankful for each and every one of them.
