We had the good fortune of connecting with Sara Zanville and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sara, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I run two businesses 🙂 I own a 90s/2000s event company called BE KIND, REWIND where we throw your favorite throwback events around town and I also am a Real Estate Agent. BE KIND, REWIND was started 7 years ago at one bar called The Virgil and has grown to residencies throughout Los Angeles. We throw theme nights at bars, we’ve hosted trivia events at bars and on zoom for corporate events, events with live cover bands, and game nights. I wanted to create an umbrella of 90s/2000s events and so far we’ve captured that!

As a Real Estate agent, I got my license in 2021. Since getting my license, I’ve closed 7 deals and multiple leases. I’m part of Equity Union Real Estate which has 8 locations throughout California and I love it all! During the pandemic, I was let go from my day job and decided to have a “covid career shift.” I am so glad I did. I can now help people find their dream homes, sell their homes to find a new home, help clients lease or lease out their homes and be part of their home journey. It’s such a blessing!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career has definitely taken many turns. I worked in hospitality for 20 years. I started as a server at Johnny Rockets and ended in a corporate position overseeing events for 16 restaurants from DC to Los Angeles. In between, I worked at Fox Studios and was associate director of their food service dept and managed a restaurant at the SLS hotel in Beverly Hills.

BE KIND, REWIND started as a fun side project. I just loved events, loved the 90s, and wanted to be creative. I’m so grateful it turned into a successful side business! I now have assistants who run the events, we have expanded together to multiple locations and I’m so grateful for the team I’ve built.

Real Estate started during the pandemic, so I’m definitely still learning and am so grateful for the support I have! I’ve been lucky to help multiple families with purchasing and selling their homes and look forward to the growth.

The main piece of advice to any business is consistency. I work 7 days a week, whether it’s on the 90s/2000s events or my Real Estate. I’m marketing myself, following up with past clients, planning the next events, posting on social media…you need to stay consistant and the success will follow.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
OMG there are so many amazing places in Los Angeles! As for the daytime, I would suggest the beach. A stroll down Venice Boardwalk, Santa Monica Pier, Malibu, etc. As for dining, I would take them to my local favorites. Antonio’s Pizzeria in Sherman Oaks is the best Italian place, Mirabelle is a great wine bar, Tiki No, where we throw our 90s/2000s event is a great tiki bar, and The Great Greek is an amazing Greek restaurant.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So many people deserve a shoutout! For the BE KIND, REWIND business, I definitely need to shout out Davis and Adam for starting the event and allowing me to jump in and take over everything. They were DJing 90s music at a different bar and the concept of a 90s event just sounded so fun and they allowed me to expand on the idea and take it to where it is today 🙂

As for Real Estate, my mentor Bonnie, Dan the VP, and Harma the owner have played such important roles in my career! From being in a 20-year career in hospitality to starting a new career in Real Estate, all of the guidance is needed. I am so appreciative of them!
