We had the good fortune of connecting with roger weeks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi roger, what’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
Choosing to move from New Hampshire to LA to pursue music.

I wouldn’t trade my life in LA for anything. I love my little house by the reservoir in Silver Lake, my friends who have become family, my cat, and the ability to open my front door and step into a world full of opportunity. I still spend, though, a lot of time thinking about how different my life would be if I chose to stay on the east coast. I love home more than anything– the lakes, the trees, the air, the rain, the drives, the smell, my friends, my family. All of it. I’ll always be a New England kid through and through.

I don’t regret leaving by any means, and I’m not sure I see myself moving back anytime soon (or ever), but I would be lying to you if I said I haven’t been wondering lately why home is my biggest inspiration. Whenever I sit down to write music I’m right back in New Hampshire writing by candlelight in my childhood room. Home is woven into each and every one of the songs I write.

I’m also suddenly realizing that this article has quickly turned into a diary entry. Sorrrryyyy!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve written hundreds of songs– Songs about love, losing my mom, anxiety, overcoming impossible setbacks, gender identity, our society, and so much more. My writing is a discipline that has provided me with stability and freedom in a very chaotic world. I’m so proud that even when it felt like the universe was trying to stop me, I’ve never let anything get in the way of writing.

The purpose of my music is to help others feel less alone. It’s cheesy, I know, but life can be so overwhelming and it’s so easy to get “lost in the sauce” as they say. My favorite artists are able to get me out of my head and remind me of my own strength. It’s my dream that a song I write does that for even just one person.

If I could tell the world just two things about my music I would say that I’ve intended my lyrics to help you feel less alone… and for the instrumentation to transport you to a beautiful island on a lake where life is just a little bit less scary.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
LA is by far my favorite city in the world. It’s a place where boredom is impossible unless you choose it. When a friend is first visiting me in Silver Lake, I like to give them a glimpse of my “normal”. A typical day for me starts with coffee at Broome Streete General Store on Rowena Ave and a walk around the reservoir with my little doggo.

After coffee, I’m more than likely to suggest Forage (on Rowena Ave, too) for breakfast. If you haven’t been to Forage yet, you must. It’s by far my favorite restaurant in Silver Lake (trust me when I tell you to order the Cinnamon roll).

After that we’ll do whatever we feel like– maybe a trip to the Griffith Observatory, some shopping around downtown Atwater, a drink at Club Tee Gee, or some mimosas at the Silver Lake meadow.

I love spending an early evening at the Silver Lake Meadow. I love to bring my little bluetooth speaker, a cute little blanket, some lawn chairs, and wine (of course) and throw a little party so I can introduce my best “home” friend to my best “LA” friends. LA is fun because of the beautiful weather, the shows, the food, and the night life, but for me, it’s the people here that make it extra special.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom. My mom was my biggest fan and supporter. My first memories are my mom cheering me on, hyping me up, and assuring me that I could do anything I set my mind to. I’m the luckiest person on our planet because Cathy Weeks was my mom. It’s my life’s mission to always make her proud.
