We had the good fortune of connecting with Shelly Ehler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shelly, what do you want your legacy to be?
I would love to be known as someone who helped make hypnotherapy mainstream. Hypnotherapy is such a powerful therapeutic modality and it’s so misunderstood. Many people are afraid to be hypnotized because of what they see on stage shows and in movies. It’s ridiculous because that’s entertainment akin to a magic show. A hypnotherapy session is nothing of the sort. It’s part talk therapy and part hypnosis which feels just like a guided meditation. The client lays in a recliner and listens to positive suggestions and doesn’t do or say anything. It’s 100% safe and highly effective.

I would love to be remembered as someone who was kind, caring, genuine and who inspired others to follow their hearts, dream big and live their best lives.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m a clinical hypnotherapist with my own private practice in Camarillo, Ca. I think one thing that sets me apart from others is that I see almost all my clients in person. Since Covid, most therapists went virtual and didn’t go back, but I see clients in my office 6 days a week. I love that and so do they! I’m most proud of the fact that I’m able to help people and see major changes in just a few sessions. I’m able to help my clients eliminate debilitating fear and phobias they’ve had for a life time and do so quickly. It’s just the best feeling to help someone get their life back.

I got where I am today by following my heart and believing in myself. I never had a single doubt that I would have a successful hypnotherapy practice so that’s what I created. Anyone can do that. You just have to believe. What I want the world to know most is that hypnotherapy is one of the most powerful therapeutic modalities. When you work with your subconscious mind you can make incredible progress toward becoming who you want to be.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Ventura County so one of my favorite things to do when friends visit is to take the Amtrak Surfliner train to Santa Barbara and spend the day at the Funk Zone. There are lots of things to do in the Funk Zone but we love wine tasting. I love to visit our favorite winery, Melville (most incredible Pinot Noir), and eat pizza at The Lucky Penny (best pizza ever!). It’s always a great time! You can’t beat a day in Santa Barbara!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Quick shoutout to my husband and sons (Brian, Max and Clark). I could not do what I do without their love and support. There have been many times over my many entrepreneurial journey’s that I just wanted to give up and I stopped believing in myself but my family never stopped believing in me. It’s their love and belief in me that always kept me going. I am the entrepreneur I am because of them.
