Meet Sarah Oh | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Oh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
There have been so many micro-moments in my life that I believe aligned to bring me to where I am today. And one of the, not-so-micro moments is marrying my husband–the other half of Sarah Oh Photography. Steven runs our videography department, Juneday Films. And he is truly my partner in every sense of the word. He’s my partner in parenting our two boys, my business partner as a key decision maker and player in all the engagement sessions and weddings we get to do together, and partner in life.
Having someone who I trust whole-heartedly be there with me on the big days and soundboard any and all ideas on day in and day out is my secret sauce. I love doing life with him, and getting to do business together is even better. He pushes me in the ways I need and supports me in the only way that he can. I love working with him and I think it’s apparent to our clients as we always like to say that working with us is like going on a double date with us.
Being able to have your best friend as your business partner makes every project fun and exciting.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I truly love love. I know it’s so cliche. But I don’t mind. I love getting to know people, I love love, and I feel SO fortunate that my job is to literally celebrate and party with people. I always joke that after a session I feel like I made a new friend, but I’ve always been eager to make connections like that. It almost feels too good to be true that I am almost expected to do that–what I used to think was just a weird quirk. I get to be invited to celebrate the biggest milestones in people’s lives from weddings, to first birthdays, and family christmas traditions. And I get to meet some really great people and hear such interesting stories.
As much as the final composition, colors, and lighting are important to a final photo, the natural expression and actions of the subjects in the photo are just as important. You really have to appreciate all the moments to make sure you’re in place to capture that big bellied laugh, or heartfelt embrace.
I think that being able to lean into that desire to want to get to know people, find the moments that tell their story, has helped me capture some of my favorite photos.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Food is my love language, so I’d probably base 99% of the itinerary based on where to eat. The other 1% would be for good views. Since I love good food and good views, going to places with both is where I think we hit the jackpot. I don’t think anything beats the view and ability to eat right on the beach at the Beachcomber. Or stopping by for a scenic brunch at the Lido Marina Village and some seaside shopping. Food wise– I think you would have to visit Boiling Crab, Boiling Point, Brodards for some spring rolls, and Han Yang for some korean soup. But of course no trip would be complete without some boba to top it off– my personal favorites would either be Omomo Tea Shoppe or Orobae.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would definitely have to shout out my husband, Steven Noh. From watching our boys when I go out to do sessions, to surprising me with a newly made website to set up our online presence, I am so grateful to have a supportive partner who shows up with his actions. I also cannot forget to mention how grateful I am to my mom! From her constant support throughout my life to pursue what I love, she never hesitates to helping watch our boys for our busy calendars.
