We had the good fortune of connecting with Underrated Evolution and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Underrated, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
We all were naturally attracted to music because of our different cultures and upbringing. We always explored different aspects of music like producing, sound design, and videography. Once the pandemic hit we were locked in on campus and started making music at the studio.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Our music is mostly to spread joy, vibes and motivate people to go after the things they want in life. The things we are most proud of is the impressions we leave on people after they hear our songs for the first time whether it’s live or through streaming. For example, our latest project release titled “Summer Not Ova” gives listeners all flavors of what Underrated Evolution has to offer in music. If you wanted to understand us and who we are I’d recommend listening to that first. To get to where we are today we honestly have a great team. Anything we need we can rely on them to answer the call. It’s not an easy task navigating this career path but there are always signs that we are heading in the right direction. One of our main challenges was juggling college and music at once. As some of us have attained masters degrees, it has also taught us resiliency. Underrated Evolution is derived from the notion of creating something out of nothing. Starting from a small college studio, the group is determined to take their sound worldwide, which we stamped the slogan #UEtotheWorld.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Since we’re all based in NYC, we have a plethora of options to explore. JV being from Queens, would ideally take a trip to all his favorite Caribbean food spots, Peppas , Trincity, and Kaiteur to name a few; serving roti, jerk chicken, oxtail, and fish as options. Dzifa would take a trip to Harlems known Famous Fish spot as a Harlem native. Tron originally being from Trinidad has found interest in Japanese restaurants, Tamashii Ramen. Being born & raised in the city there are lots to explore. With UE however, our go to activities are trips to the gym playing basketball, top golf, paint balling, and bowling.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Underrated Evolution represents not only the core artist in itself but the entire foundation at its core. This starts with our team. Comprised of individuals who we identify as our brothers, without the love and encouragement of them, we would not be where we are today. Thank you to Kofi, Mikey, Anthony, Shawn. Thank you to all of our supporters who have been with us from the beginning and continue to elevate with us on our path. Most importantly, thank you to God!
