We had the good fortune of connecting with Susie Sitcom and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Susie, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
“If it’s too good to be true, it probably is. ”
That’s a terrible self-limiting mind set.
Be open to receive! Believe your life can be extraordinary! Have faith! You will be surprised at how the world opens up to you.
I am grateful and thankful everyday. When I focus on good, I see more good. What’s the saying, “Where your mind goes energy flows.”
A lot of people think I’m a dreamer, I’m unrealistic and crazy. It used to hurt my feelings, but as I’ve gotten older I realize a worse insult would be for someone to call me normal, status quo or forgettable.
You may not like me, but you won’t forget me! My name is Susie Sitcom. People think I have that name because I want a sitcom. I don’t! My name is Susie Sitcom because my life is a Sitcom or a joke!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I didn’t choose stand up comedy. It chose me. “Man makes plans and God Laughs.”
I love to make people laugh! I love to make people happy! I’m such a people pleaser, I pretend I’m a bad driver and meditate on the 405, so I don’t disappoint anyone.
Btw, If you laughed at that you are a racist!
I was booked to perform in a Sunday Morning Stand Up Comedy Show at Second City Chicago on the ETC stage
9 years ago. I was taking an Improv class as a date night and the instructor asked to book me for his stand up show.
I always thought of myself as more of a behind the camera or backstage kind of gal so I was about to say No until my Ex shouted out “She doesn’t even know what Stand Up Comedy is”
He tried turning down My opportunity.
The first album I owned was King Tut by Steve Martin my Father bought me when I was 5 years old. We watched Saturday Night Live with Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, John Belushi and Gilda Radner every Saturday night as a family. Comedy was the one thing we watched as a family.
So I took that opportunity and ran with it. The second I began performing an overwhelming calm washed over me and I felt at home. I found my passion.
I stopped doing stand up comedy for few years due to my divorce, but I wasn’t serious about getting paid before. I’ve performed at least one a week for the past two years.
I’ve been lucky in terms of stand up comedy. I’ve meet some fantastic comics and people who book me every week shout out to Cosmic Comedy and the Worlds Best Laughs along with Max Events LLC.
I’ve had the honor to perform at the Laugh Factory on Sunset, The Hollywood Improv, The Irvine Improv, The World Famous Comedy Store on Sunset, Flappers, HAHA Comedy Club, Westside Comedy, the Comedy Chateau and Second City Chicago in addition to a lot of bars and restaurants throughout LA.
A stand up project I worked on last year just got released on Tubi. Check out Comedy Cube Comedy specials. I booked more than 100 of the 200 comics that were booked on the Funny Media Group YouTube channel.
On Dec 7-9, 2023 I am the Santa Clarita Film Festival’s Director Of Comedy.
Sean McBride is the Assistant Director of the SCIFF.org film festival.
Other projects I’m working on is re-releasing some interviews I did during the pandemic. I am actively working on a dark graphic novel which I hope to release some preview of at SCIFF.org.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
On Dec 7-9, 2023 to the Santa Clarita Film Festival at the Laemme Theatre the films will be screened. At The Main Theatre we will be hosting Stand Up Comedy shows. At the American Legion there will be Musical Performances.
Every comedy club has its own clique of comics and it’s own vibe, so I would say check out all comedy shows at every club and bar you can make it too! After the show, head over to K-town for some Korean BBQ!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
