Meet Jerome Rogowski | Creative Director/Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jerome Rogowski and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jerome, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I, like many college graduates, often don’t know what they want in life. I chose.a business bachelors degree because it seemed to cover many careers.. I landed a job working in the stock brokerage industry, which I followed through to become a trader. After 10 years in this industry, I wanted more creative experiences, so I quit and spent a year exploring ideas. I finally decided, after asking myself,; If money-income weren’t an incentive, what would I do in life?” A retail business was the answer.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have always selected merchandise and staged our boutique with my own personal preferences in mind. Meaning that I wanted items that were unique and make those who purchased them feel the connection of the item’s manufacturer or creative intent. As my boutique evolved with this, I began a store campaign with signage that was titled, “WHY ?” and an explanation of the impact, inspiration, importance of, or rationale to the materials used or manufacturing of the item. Bringing focus on female run businesses or sustainable materials used, for example.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would tell them to visit Descanso Gardens. Taking time to walk in nature to clear your mind is extremely important these days! Although our city of Los Angeles has much to offer, our natural parks and open spaces help balance our busy lives.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband, Rev. Keith Horwitz,, has always been a strong influence in my life. Although most of the specific spiritual work that I am involved with now, has evolved over the past 15 years, he was supportive of my decision to change careers and pursue a retail store, realizing that I could have more creative expression working for myself. The inner work, as I have learned now, is critical to beneficially evolving in one’s career.
