Meet WEN GU | Artist & Life Experiencer

We had the good fortune of connecting with WEN GU and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi WEN, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe there is not a completely secure option. Everything comes with a greater or lesser degree of riskiness. And high risk is often, along with opportunity, transformative. I used to work in the financial industry and had a decent income. I faced a lot of career risks when I switched to become an artist. In the process of working as an artist, I also often face the risk of failure when faced with the expression of different topics and the use of media. Even in the process of each sketch, there is the risk of drawing “bad” content. But it is these risks, that have allowed me to gradually find a career path, a style of painting that suits me better, and that has allowed me to broaden my world and my horizons by not limiting myself to a fixed area.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have tried different careers, studied and worked in different cities/countries. I tried my best in every period and I gained some achievements in each period. What I have learnt during these processes is that I must be true to myself. Whether it’s a career choice, a life path, or in the choice of drawing subject and the choice of colours for each stroke in a painting, follow the direction that your heart approves of the most. Right or wrong is not in someone else’s mouth. And every time I made a change, I was challenged with great uncertainty and difficulty. But I never gave up and grew accustomed to constantly challenging myself. I hope to bring my readers the courage to enjoy life. I hope that you can find joy in the day-to-day life and also have the courage to make changes when you don’t like the state of your life. Tenderness is the greatest power and that is what I would like to convey.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my friends to the most beautiful nature wherever I am. That could be the mountain/lake/ocean, depending on the city. I love food and I would take her to some very fine restaurants. I will also take her to some street restaurants that only the locals know about.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my family and friends. I have met many people who, after a few years in the workforce, want to try out different careers. But very few are as lucky as me to be able to make this a reality. When I decided to make the change, I faced a lot of questions and lack of understanding, but my family and friends, who love me the most, chose to support me and believe in my decision. And they have given me the courage to stick to my own path.
