We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Kahn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
I love the quote, “Be yourself, everyone else is taken” from Oscar Wilde. When I first heard this quote, it stuck with me right away. It’s short and sweet, but to the point and incredibly insightful. We are all unique people and it allows us to not compare each other to one another and to be confident and content in our own skin. I think that is such a healthy outlook on life.

I have always walked ‘to the beat of my own drum’ in life. It reminds me that I do not need to mimic what others are doing or to feel lesser because I’m choosing a different path. It reminds me that I am wonderful just the way that I am. Being an independent artist and having full discretion to make my art exactly the way that I want to is the most freeing feeling ever. This quote reflects how uniqueness is not only praised, but necessary in order for the world to keep moving around.

Sometimes it is difficult not to compare myself to other artists. That always affects my self-esteem and makes me question my own worth. But, focusing on this quote and knowing that I am enough in this world and my quirkiness is what makes me a special person boosts my confidence and helps me to push forward with my endeavors. I have recently been going through a renaissance in my life. It feels amazing and I’m realizing how truly worthy and amazing that I am in life. It has empowered me to be the best version of myself moving forward.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an up-and-coming independent artist who is a singer and songwriter. This is a brand-new journey for me. There are many things that set me apart from others. I am excited to get out there as a singer as I am not only pitch perfect and I can sing in a high C5 in belt with ease (this means I can sing very high notes without straining my vocal cords). But, the main reason is that I LOVE to sing, it brings me joy in my life and nourishes my soul. That is not only a gift to my audience, but to myself. Lastly, there are not a lot of Asian-American singers and I also have a unique love of the natural environmental and sustainability I want to infuse into my artistry too.

I am most proud of myself for taking that step to actually pursue a career in singing. The next one would be my 9-song debut album, “Redemption” that I recently released. It has taken me up until now in my life to be brave enough to pursue a career in the arts. I’m so thankful that I have, I now can’t think of doing anything else in my life. It’s where I belong and I want to be. It has been little things in my life that have led me to where I am today as a singer. I began singing when I was 21-months-old. I began playing the piano around 8-years-old and I began writing songs and composing music at 10-years-old. It is in my blood to become an artist, at this rate, I think it was just a matter of time until my innate abilities and gift would begin to come out. It now has.

This has been anything but an easy path. I now know why so many people look up to artists –it is because they are fearless and they are not afraid to show the world their truest self. Being someone who does that now, I am honored to have the opportunity to do so and to now share that passion with the world.

I want the world to know that I am here and I’m ready to shine! My confidence is up, my soul is nourished and full, I have done a lot of growing as a person to be proud of who I am today and I’m just ready to share my voice and my music with the world now!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is ironic because I have a friend coming to visit me for a week soon, so this is actually a realistic question for me. One thing I love about all of my friends is that they are all different. So, what I like to do is cater our hangouts to be things that they and I enjoy doing together. I think that majority of people come to visit Southern California for the sunny and sandy beaches. I am going to be taking my friend to the touristy areas of Santa Monica and Malibu as those are two of my favorite beach areas that are relatively close to me. I also plan to take her to many restaurants (she recommended vegan ones and there are plenty of those here). But, I love all of the different ethnic foods and cuisines that grace this city. We also both love the natural environment so we are going to be going on walks and hikes. Griffith Park is actually in my backyard, so we are definitely going there for convenience and there are so many wonderful trails there too. There are also so many cute boutiques and shops around the city, so I’m sure that we will take a day to peruse different stores in the Los Angeles area. That is relatively what I have planned out, plus or minus a few other things, but that sounds like an eventful and relaxing time to me! Writing this all down is actually getting me excited for her visit!!!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am a grateful person, rarely do I not give credit where it is due because I know that, “teamwork makes the dream work.” There are so many people that I am grateful for on my musical journey. I would firstly like to thank my parents for always supporting me in my life. They have truly been silent supporters who have given me nothing by selfless love and support, I am forever thankful to them. I would also like to thank my life partner who has been extremely supportive with me pursuing a career in music. He has been there every step of the way supporting me in every capacity possible. Without him, I wouldn’t be where I am today with my music. I would also like to thank all of my friends and extended family from all over the world who constantly support and cheer me on every step of the way.

Another very big area in my life that deserves a Shoutout is my team helping me out with my musical journey. The one that deserves major recognition is my current music producer/co-writer/mentor/friend who has been beyond instrumental in helping me to grow into my artistry and follow my truth in life. Through our time working together he has helped me to overcome my fears, my failures, my shortcomings, and my insecurities in my life. From vanquishing all of those areas, I have been able to get past a lot of things that were holding me back from becoming the amazing indie artist that I am today!

I would also like to thank everyone who has given me a platform to perform, create music videos, PR/marketing work, and anyone else that has helped me get that much closer to pursuing my wildest dreams and helping me to make them come true now. It’s an amazing feeling to have so much support in my life. A career in the arts is a very volatile and challenging career to navigate and support, I think, is the most important aspect to it – that is why I’m grateful for everyone in my life who believes in me and loves me. Thank you all again for all that you do, it doesn’t go unnoticed.
