Meet Nick Lanny | Stand Up Comedian

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Lanny and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nick, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I love creating things, and stand up comedy is one of those mediums where people can receive joy through laughter.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a stand up comedian who has a unique perspective, as I started in coffee shops and churches, without meeting many other comedians when I first started, which made me think more about how my art reaches an audience, rather than trying to impress my peers.
I feel I’m also unique as a performer, as rather than mocking others, I really wanted to be a comedian who looks internally first. I also really like absurdity, which I feel is hard to find, these days.
I’m also a clean comic, which is great for being able to work in family friendly environments, but there’s also a challenge where you want to prove to your fellow comedians that you deliver in venues that are not predominantly clean.
There were definite challenges as whenever you do any endeavor where you’re trying to be original, it’s an uphill battle as you have to figure out how to make your art accessible.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The Comedy Store, in Hollywood– I just love the atmosphere and it’s one of those places where you can see both famous comedians and the “up and comers”.
Joe’s Pizza, in Hollywood — this is near the Comedy Store, has great and they’re open late if you’re just getting out from catching a show
Highpoint Brewing Company, in San Dimas — it’s a brewery with friendly staff and they get the best food vendors, I also run a monthly show there, on usually the 2nd Saturday of the month
Third Wheel Comedy in Hollywood — this is a great place if you want to try comedy for the first time during their “open mic” night, they also have great professional shows
Hollywood Thai, in Hollywood — great food, very friendly safe and another place that’s open late
OOmasa, in Little Tokyo — Some of the best sushi I’ve had in the city
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, then it’s my family and lastly the audience members who have given me their time to let me share my art on stage.
