We had the good fortune of connecting with Jade Devitt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jade, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I’ve always tried to put life in front of work, I don’t always succeed. My burning desires have always been tied to being creative, whether as a musician /songwriter, for my band Gale Forces, expressing myself athletically as an adult league baseball enthusiast, or via travel & escape to the natural world. My career as a realtor has at times blended the two. I am part of a very creative based brokerage: PLG Estates. Often the clients I attract come from the world of creatives, and the clients fall into that category as well. In a town where aesthetics are key, presenting a home for sale is often like staging a set for the camera. And often the setting is as beautiful as the imagination can stretch.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I cut my teeth in the 90’s Seattle music scene as a recording and touring musician. First with the band Engine Kid (Revelation Records) and later with Lucky Me (Warner Bros). I continue on a musical path with my current band that I front Gale Forces. Working in the LA community I am constantly surrounded by other creatives. Directors, Editors, Producers, Actors, Musicians and more. These folks in turn have become my clients. And there is a special benefit to being able to “speak the language’ of creatives. To know the short hand of right brained musings. In my work as a realtor and contractor, I often hear things like “you’re different” or “you’re not like other realtors or contractors”. I attribute this to my background as a musician, a skateboarder as a teen, and a lover of art and music.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m an Eastsider through and through. And my heart still belongs to Silver Lake. What first drew me to the area was it’s similarity to my former Seattle. With curvy roads, tree covered hilltops, and the sparkling reservoir in the middle. My best friends first day would start with a strong “Cream Top” coffee from Maru in Los Feliz, followed by a brisk walk around Silver Lake reservoir. Our lunch destination would be Trails cafe in Griffith Park, where it’s not unlikely to run into Moby, or Thom Yorke. The evening would start with a trip to my favorite Silver Lake haunt the “Thirsty Crow’ bar, then dinner at Bacari and a concert at the Greek Theatre under the stars. And if I wanted to throw in a mountain hike in Angeles Crest, or catching waves in Ocean Park those can checked off on the same day!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My most recent successes can be tied to a very important mentor of mine- Robert E. Gardinier Jr. As an architect, designer and general contractor Robert has set himself apart by his excellent works in Bel Air, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, and Beverly Hills. I first met Robert when he hired me as a painting contractor for a project in Cheviot Hills in 2014. Now years later in my work as a licensed Real Estate advisor, we continue to collaborate of projects related to sales, remodeling, and more. Robert has been an important guide in helping me navigate complex situations with clients. Through his integrity, creativity, experience and know-how I continue to learn from him, and to pass those lessons along to others.
