We had the good fortune of connecting with April Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi April, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have a fun flexible schedule daily. Everyday is different from clients to modalities that I use for each session. I walk in my shop with an instant breath of gratitude. I am a people person getting to know someone fills my heart that’s why my clients turn into instant friends. Owning my shop gives me the opportunity to design with fun, warm colors much like my personality. Being my own boss gives me freedom to say yes or no and that’s powerful.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Wow!!!! Being more a creative mindset and switching into the business aspect was foreign. This business was scary but a big dream of mine. It was a retirement dream but it was too good to pass up. I freaked out then gave them the check to make it mine. I didn’t want to be like other spas with employees, I wanted my therapist to be independent and keep 100% of their profits. I learned a happy worker is one that is respected and paid what they are worth. Opening a massage studio is difficult as a new owner, paper work to the ceiling, those hoops and red tape made me question my decision but if it was easy everyone would do it ! Once the business licenses came in it was paint, furniture and Kspa inspiration. We are a vibe, with each therapist having their own influence in their rooms by design and energy. We made a serenity room for our clients to decompress before and after the session. Our space allows our clients to escape the hectic outside world, recharge, then conquer it with confidence.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The best is a staycation!!! We would start the day with breakfast at two trees in ventura nopales and eggs are fire! then then head to the ventura keys to paddle board to the cove park the paddles to enjoy a nice walk in the ventura harbor, have drinks and snacks at brophy brothers or boat house, more beach time paddle back then early dinner at fluid state downtown vta. Walks around shoppes too many to mention plum and gelato and Palermo’s
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The ladies I work with in my shoppe Christie Wolfe LMT , Karena Munoz LMT and Miriam Delasantos acupuncturist. We work as a team without them this would be difficult. We are like the ninja turtles, each having a set skills that make Twinpalms bigger and better and a favorite food too, we actually do get excited about our pizza parties unlike other companies !!! We of course add hot wings classy and spicy
