We had the good fortune of connecting with Timbrey Lind and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Timbrey, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to be able to help people in my own way, to the best of my ability, without anyone else’s rules dictating me. Also to be able to work for myself as a full-time mom, and making my own schedule was ideal
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As a Myofunctional therapist, I work on balancing, strengthening and restoring proper function to the oral and facial muscles. Weird right?! Who would have thought that’s a thing! But it is and it’s a REALLY important one. A lot of people are referring to it as “face yoga” nowadays, but it’s so much more.
People come to see me for specific issues such as TMJ discomfort and disorders, sleep disorders and need for better quality of sleep, tongue thrust issues, improper swallowing patterns, and tongue ties, to name a few. In conjunction with exercises I give people to help strengthen and define the facial muscles, I offer intra oral massage as well. This helps release fascial strains and muscle tension, as well as bring blood to the surface for healing and cell regeneration. It’s not always comfortable, but definitely worth it.
Aside from myofunctional therapy, I work as a Breathwork coach. This part of my work is what really lights me up because Breathwork can change us physiologically, with such simple technique. It can keep us in a state of rest and digest instead of fight or flight. Who couldn’t use more of that?!
Some of my trainings in Breathwork include the Buteyko Breathing Method, the Wim Hof Method, transformational breathing method and hypopressive method.
How did I get to where I am today? Making friends with people who are in the same line of work with me so we can refer patients to each other. We all know it takes a community! There isn’t a magic bullet for anyone.
Dedication everyday to building my business and structuring it how I want. A lot of meditation and visualization, goal setting, etc.
I wouldn’t say it’s been easy, but I will say that things happen a lot faster when you visualize it and put the effort in.
I want people to know that creating what you want, exactly what you want, is possible. It still takes work but it is all worth it.
Being able to help people get out of pain and restore proper function has been the most rewarding part of my career. Changing the way people breathe, changing their stress levels, giving them tools to help themselves in times of need, is where it’s at for me.
I believe everyone is their own greatest advocate for health and I’m just here to help guide them.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There’s a great new restaurant called Sunrose in Agoura Hills. They’ve got great breakfast, brunch, cocktails and mocktails. Basta is another great restaurant dinner option for some homemade Italian pasta.
Malibu Cafe is a great outdoor venue for a Sunday brunch in the sun with some outdoor games.
As for activities, we are lucky to be surrounded by so many great trails so hiking, trail running and mountain biking is endless. I’m a rock climber so I would probably take them to Point Dume for some beach time and rock climbing above the waves or Malibu Creek State Park.
As always, a trip into the city to The Last Bookstore would definitely be on that list as well.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are always people to shoutout to! My first would be Dr. Kathleen Carson. She is a dentist I worked for when I found this career path and she was always extremely supportive in all of my passions with what I wanted to learn and also starting my own business. My second shout out is to my husband and kiddos. They were my guinea pigs in starting this path and continue to be huge lessons for me.
My next shoutout is to my family and friends of course, who are always encouraging me to keep going.
And the MOST important shoutout is to my clients who trust me in guiding them to better health
