We had the good fortune of connecting with Easton Edwin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Easton, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Growing up not having any insight on what really goes into creating a tv show, film, or commercial, was a huge learning experience for me when I entered into this industry. I believe that the majority of people who haven’t worked in television or film, will never truly understand the extensive process, nor the vast amount of departments, ideas, positions, crew, or meticulous details that serve each and every project. From development, selling an idea, to casting, producing, post and distributing (a very, very brief description of a much longer list), there are so many levels and hands that make these visions into a reality. With each position comes an abundance of duties, and skill sets. Having worked in this industry for 14 years, there is still so much that I am learning about it, and so much more that I will continue to learn about it with each new day. It’s truly amazing to see how complex this world really is, and awe-inspiring to see how each piece comes together.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Originally starting out and spending many years in the Fashion Industry, jumping into the Entertainment world was an unexpected, yet completely exciting change. I started out working on a first season of a talk show on PIX11, and to me, it was the perfect place to get my feet wet. I was able to see a bit of the production side, while also working with talent, on-set and in the office. It quickly opened the door for me to the unscripted/reality tv world, where I started working in casting. Now, I have spent the last 14 years casting and producing talent for major cable/primetime networks, brands, and streaming services. What I am most proud of is the connection that I make with talent I am casting. I want everyone to feel comfortable, in what is not always an easy or comfortable process. It truly makes me happy knowing that I can help make others feel comfortable while being vulnerable with a complete stranger in a casting interview. What I am most excited about working on, but haven’t had the opportunity to work on just yet, are social justice related castings/documentaries. Equality in all aspects of life has always been of huge importance to me, and I would love to help be a part of bringing tolerance and acceptance across not only the US, but globally. It is an important mission that I feel needs to be widely and continuously spread and discussed. Getting to where I am today was no easy feat, both personally, or professionally. I’ve dealt with many hardships throughout my life, but, overcoming each and every one only makes you stronger, and for me at least, makes you work harder. Life is an experience of growth, knowledge and evolving. To succeed in life and work, it is important to remember to do all three.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
While living in LA, one of my favorite day trips was to Wolf Mountain Sanctuary in the Lucerne Valley. Yes, it sounds exactly as it is… a sanctuary for rescued wolves. An outdoor enthusiast, I would also have to suggest a horseback trail ride, paddleboarding, and hikes, many, many hikes! The LA surrounding area has so many beautiful places to hike, some of my favorites being Temecula and Eaton canyon. For lunch, I would recommend Gracias Madre in WeHo, and Sunny Blue in Venice for a quick and yummy Omusubi snack! And…we cannot forget about Blue Star Donuts in Venice. The blueberry bourbon is one of my faves!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Over the course of my career, quite a few have both motivated, and mentored me. Seeing the passion, drive, ambition and hard work from my fellow colleagues, has always been a huge inspiration to me. It helps to aid in why we do what we do, why we love what we do, and why we continue to keep pushing forward. It instills in you, a sense of perseverance, and work ethic. As independent as I am, and as I know many around me are, we wouldn’t be where we are without the love, support, and guidance from those around us. Thank you to all who have impacted my life and career thus far.
