In short: people. It’s nothing new and it might even be a little cliched, but hearing people’s stories, whether it be anecdotes, life events, or gossip, is what gets my creative juice flowing. With the access to stories across different cultures we have today, information is constantly being thrown at us, and sometimes it’s easy to forget that life is still as important when we aren’t participating in something that feels big. I’m a strong believer that inspiration is something you train. Spending time each day reflecting and taking in what we’re going through is a good way of keeping that muscle active. Travels, lunch with friends, calls with family, reading, writing… it’s all food for the soul, but even struggling to get out of bed or getting overwhelmed because you can’t find your wallet for the third time today has the potential to be source of inspiration. I’m inspired by the multifaceted nature of human beings; how we overcome obstacles and hardships, and then we carry on with our lives, telling stories of our experiences, in hopes that others may see themselves in them. I’m inspired by the complexity of life and individuals—messed up, yet beautiful at the same time. I love listening to people, observing them. Sometimes, there are those magical moments when I get an idea for a new film or book, seemingly out of nowhere. All it takes is a sentence or image that sparks an idea, or I suddenly visualize scenes and can hear the characters speak in my head. However, there are also times when I don’t feel inspired at all. Love. Love inspires me. There are all sorts of love, platonic, romantic, self love, just to name a few. Love is the reason why a lot of us are here. It’s so inspiring. I also just read that the cotton buyer for Johnson & Johnson invented the band-aid for his wife because she would get cut frequently. So he combined two Johnson & Johnson products together, their adhesive tape and gauze to create a bandage his wife could use for her wounds. He invented that out of love. Read more>>
