We had the good fortune of connecting with Pete Hopkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pete, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’m not entirely sure that I did pursue an artistic or creative career. I’ve always loved music. I got bit by the bug very early in life. What started off as something I did just for pleasure became more than that naturally when I reached the age where I had to generate income to sustain survival. No one was more surprised than me to find that I can actually get paid to do this thing that I loved beyond measure. It’s one of the greatest triumphs of my time on this planet to not have to be forced to work to fulfill someone else’s dream and to know that I am always working towards building my own dynasty. I continue to explore my heart, purpose, and the magic of sound and synergy with optimism and gratitude.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an artist, vocalist, songwriter, ,creator, composer, producer, performer, entrepreneur, Educator, musician, philosopher, poet. I love to dance, i love to sing, I love to play, I love to write. I love to live in the moment and leave my fear at the door. I am an entertainer.
I’ve won several worldwide awards for my achievements in music but that doesn’t mean a lot to me really. It’s more significant to me when someone lets me know that they’ve been touched by something I wrote or a performance I gave. Whether. It was for five minutes or for years of their life…. To know that I made their existence more exciting and more enriched and more fulfilled. That’s what makes me proud I guess…. But i don’t really do pride. It is a blessing and curse in a way that when you pursue excellence at something
I’m not sure if you ever really feel like you have arrived at your destination. There are landmarks, though benchmarks if you will.
I’ve been lucky enough to work with some of my biggest heroes in music and people that I admired for years and when they in turn admire you for what you do…yeah that feels great. It’s validating. What sets me apart from others? Absolutely everything about me. There is no one out there like me. Not really… I’m a weirdo but I think i wear it well.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m probably a lousy tour guide because I keep to myself a lot. I don’t really do touristy things too much. That being said we’re hitting lucifers Pizza. We’re headed to Thai town. We’re getting Mexican food at El Cholo.. We’re going to the Getty Museum. We’re seeing John Williams conduct the LA phil at the Hollywood Bowl. We’re going to one of my shows because there’s no better time than that. When my friends have come to visit, they usually have their own agenda of things they wanna do and i go with the flow and sprinkle in suggestions as needed.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be the person I am today were it not for my teachers. When I say teachers, though, I don’t mean just people who have the job title teacher, because its how they make their living. I am of the belief that everyone you encounter in your life no matter how briefly they’re a part of it or how long they continue to influence you all have the potential to shape you and that sometimes the most obscure and seemingly unimportant moment can have significant effect on who we eventually become. Therefore I dedicate this interview to anyone who has shared any of themselves with me to help inspire who I’ve chosen to become right now..
