We had the good fortune of connecting with Babak Bijarchi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Babak, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I worked for a friend of mine at his brokerage for 13 years. He called the shots and provided the office space and equipment. He also took a percentage of my income to cover these expenses…fair enough. But after 13 years of working under his umbrella but it was all my work and my success, I decided that it was time (past time) to take a chance and launch what I knew I could do, but was too nervous and scared to do. That first year was trying, but since then, Ive never looked back. And the reason for my success?..my amazing loyal clients and business partners and MY dedication to each and every client as if they were my only one.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Im a mortgage broker. I am a one stop, one man, shop. I handle everything from clients, maintenance of records, processing, advertising and marketing. When you call my office, I answer the phone everytime.
The item Im most proud of is my attention to my clients needs and helping them acheive it. Any loan officer can sell a mortgage to a client. I actually listen to their needs, desires, and offer insightful feedback to accomplish their goals. I want to help them achieve their goals and that’s where I get my happiness.
I launched my own business 10 years ago after 13 years in the business. Its been an amazing ride with ups and downs (more ups than downs) and I wished I had done it sooner. It wasnt easy, there were mistakes made, but each mistake was an opportunity to learn and help steer my clients and myself towards their success.
My story. Graduating from college, my parents gave me a graduation gift of money and said, “you want to buy a condo, go do it”. It was enough for a down payment. I had no idea what I was getting into. The real estate broker and lender I chose lied to me the entire time up to and after closing. I decided at that point that I was never going to let that happen to anyone ever again. So when I got into the business, I treat every client as my friends and protect and inform them every step of the way. This was the secret to my success. Prioritizing my clients needs..Their needs, not mine.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Id start with some of the highlights of Long Beach- we have an amazing food scene here and some increadible beaches with bike and running paths. Id also include our new bridge, the amazing architecture and history and a selfie of course in front of the Long Beach sign. Some of my favorite places to eat – Belmont Brewing Company for the view and casual atmosphere. Right on the beach and bike/running path. Aja Peruvian Cuisine- locally owned and authentic and the owner is there everyday to welcome you. And George’s Greek on 2nd Street in Belmont Shore area of Long Beach…and Nicks on 2nd….we cant forget Nicks!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Cardinal Escrow -Amazing service, prompt responses, and always with a smile. Janice Bracht and Tricia Yang are a wealth of information and knowledge.
