We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Fahad and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have worked in healthcare administration for quite some years now and found that one of the greatest joys of that line of work is working closely with Physicians, especially those newly graduated from their training. I came to realize very quickly that there is a huge lack of training provided to Physicians about what to expect after they graduate. I saw many of my close friends and family directly impacted by this and experiencing quick burnout because they didn’t realize what their contracts stated, that they could negotiate a better deal, or that there are more options than they may have realized out there. One day a lightbulb just came on and I decided to combine my professional interests and strengths with my goals to start my own business and from there my passion project blossomed!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started out my adult career as a Medical Assistant working in various surgical and medical specialties. At the time, I was a pre-med student convinced I would be carrying on to medical school in the near future. After working alongside doctors for a few years, I decided that medicine wasn’t for me, but I still loved science, interacting with medical professionals and patients, and the innerworkings of the healthcare field. I was really lucky to land an amazing job in administration with terrific mentors and a scholarship to cover my MBA! I quickly climbed the leadership ladder and learned so much along the way. I began managing several outpatient specialties with inpatient branches and got to recruit, onboard and work with so many incredible Physicians. It has not been easy to get where I’m at today, but I’ve been lucky to find tremendous support along the way. Being displaced at the age of 17 after enduring quite a bit of childhood trauma, I really had to figure out how to make something of myself on my own. I didn’t even take the SAT’s or ACT’s because I had no parental guidance to help arrange or pay for it. I ended up enrolling myself in community college last minute and began my collegiate career there. It’s wild to look back on that and see where I am now- highly educated and very proud of my success thus far. If you would have told 18-year-old me that I would hold a director title before the age of 30 and start my own business soon after, I would think you were talking about the wrong Katie. I really felt like I was sort of floating through space and time on my own little planet until I found my footing in healthcare management and had a really strong mentor- Lauren, you’re the best and deserve a huge shoutout for your outstanding leadership and coaching!
My brand is all about empowering and guiding people towards their dreams. I want to be the support and greatest cheerleader for my clients. It’s really fun and interesting to help people understand what is most important to them and what their needs are and challenge them to see how incredibly valuable they are! I also love teaching, and have a lot of knowledge about contracts, the job market, negotiation tactics, etc. so I feel that I can be a strong resource to those who give me the opportunity to work with them!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Anyone who knows me knows that planning visits or travel is my absolute favorite! I’m a big fan of having cool stuff to do but also having some quality, relaxation time too. I like to incorporate some outdoorsy activities into any trip, even if it’s just a pretty nature walk. I’m really big into the electronic dance music/rave scene and so is my best friend, so I’d definitely want to find a good show for us to go to! I also LOVE Hamburger Mary’s drag brunches and every time I’ve been, it’s been nonstop laughter and dancing. My favorite meal so far has been at Soulmate so I’d for sure want my friend to experience the ambiance, food and cocktails there. Lastly, I’m a big fan of little day trips and there are so many options for those so I’d see if my friend was up for that and pick a new spot to explore together!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My spouse has been incredibly encouraging and supportive of me embarking on this adventure. He’s given me wonderful ideas and has empowered me to take this leap! I also have quite a few friends working in healthcare that have given me some great ideas, tips, and insight as to what the greatest needs are.
