We had the good fortune of connecting with ADRIANNE ONEILL and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi ADRIANNE, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Growing up in Nashville, TN we had the Dairy King, a little mom and pop soft serve ice cream shop. My Grandpa used to take me there all the time in the summer. It’s one of my favorite memories as a kid. My family moved to upstate NY, where I met my husband and he introduced me to his local favorite ice cream shop…soft serve again. Years later we moved to Burbank and thought about opening a brick and mortar but we had kids, careers and life just got in the way. Right before covid, my husband was laid off from work and the market was not great. That’s when he said, “What do you think about creating a soft serve food truck?” At that point we thought now is the time, but with a twist! July of 2020, right in the middle of covid, we had our first day out as Simply Twisted Soft Serve & Desserts. Soft serve on wheels and we never looked back!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Simply Twisted Soft Serve & Desserts is a family run business. You will often see our kids working on the truck, taking orders and serving ice cream especially at events. They’ve been known to come up with some of the dessert creations and are always willing to taste test new menu items! I think our soft serve is what sets us apart from other ice cream businesses. It’s creamy, airy and simple. We offer three flavors, chocolate, vanilla and the twist. Our soft serve can easily stand on it’s own deliciousness but people love toppings so we offer lots of them! We also have some specialty desserts that our customers love!

We love being on the street and seeing our regulars, but what excites us the most is our love for catering events. Soft serve brings a smile to everyone’s face, whether it’s a birthday celebration, employee appreciation, Bar Mitzvah, wedding, whatever the event, it makes people happy. We’ve learned ce cream is a common language. It spreaks to everyone, it’s therapy, it’s love and we want to spread the joy it brings!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
During covid, business was not great as you can imagine, especially a start up with no fan base. There were no events, no parties and a food truck on the street even with our weather, is still a tough business. We’ve been attending South Hills Church in Burbank for about five years now and they have been a great support system for us. They purchased gifts for their staff and volunteers from us our first December, When things started to open back up, they hired us for VET appreciation on Veteran’s Day, church picnics and even Easter one year. Slowly, we started getting hired for parties from our fellow church members, corporate events and are now used to seeing so many familiar faces from SH on a day to day basis. Their support has meant the world to us and we are so lucky to be part of their family!
