We had the good fortune of connecting with Rem Scobell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rem, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
I’d like to quote the great coach John Wooden: “Personal greatness is measured by one’s own potential, not against that of someone else on the team or elsewhere.”

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve always been drawn to films with modern settings that speak to the times we’re living in, represented by characters who make money in new and morally ambiguous ways. ‘BEVERLY HILLS EXORCIST’ is a supernatural thriller that started with a question: What if a house is too expensive to be haunted? This brings to mind a cottage industry of freelance exorcists, who, by the nature of market forces, get the job done, no matter how dangerous.

Bringing this story to life required over 150 visual effects shots, and the most challenging part was making sure that they were in service of the story, that is to say, telling the story with directness and grace.

The end result is something I’m very excited about. You have to see it to believe it. I can’t wait to share it with people.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Nothing says SoCal like a great selfie, and for that, let’s go to the Broad Museum. There are some incredible selfie spots there, but my favorite is Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirror Room at The Broad. For pictures of the city, a trip to the Griffith Observatory and The Getty is a must. For shopping, there’s always The Grove, but I strongly prefer Orange County spots like South Coast Plaza and The Irvine Spectrum. Then there’s probably my favorite ice cream spot, Joe’s Italian Ice on Harbor Blvd. The lines for that place regularly go around the block, but don’t be alarmed, it moves fast!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely a shout-out to Eileen Dietz, who brilliantly portrays the demon in my new film. You may recognize her from her iconic role as Captain Howdy, also known as Pazuzu, in the original classic ‘The Exorcist.’ To prepare for working with her, I read her autobiography, “Exorcising My Demons: An Actress’s Journey to The Exorcist and Beyond.” Reading her story made me a bit starstruck when it came time to shoot the film with her. Despite it being a highly complicated VFX shoot, she delivered an incredible performance and was very patient with me. I am very grateful to her and highly recommend her biography to anyone curious about acting in Hollywood.
