Meet Sadie Pegues-Hall | Editor-in-Chief Meet The Woman Behind The Business Magazine

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sadie Pegues-Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sadie, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think it is important to take certain risks in your life and career, especially when the underlying reason for not taking the risk, is because of a fear of failure. It was certainly a risk for me to start a magazine that was geared towards such a specific, targeted audience. I was asked if I thought it was too niche and if enough people would be receptive to the idea. To many it may seem like a narrow concept, but to me the need for a magazine for black women, small business owners, that gives them a platform for visibility and exposure far outweighed the risk. Also, to answer the question of whether or not people would be receptive to it was easy. I am one of those people. I felt the need to create this publication, and I passionately believed that others would see the vision as well.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Meet The Woman Behind The Business Magazine is a publication/platform that is all about supporting black women, small business owners. Black women are so overdue for a platform for people to connect with us.
What sets this platform apart is that this is a movement of visibility. Meet The Woman Behind The Business Magazine removes stereotypes and allows all people to connect with black women on a broader level. This in turn will create more opportunities, for consumers and businesses to want to do business with us, and to see us as the leaders and entrepreneurs we have always been.
This magazine features products, fashion, insights, interviews, mental health articles, recipes, tips and so much more from these amazing, black women, small business owners. I am so honored to be trusted with their brands and humbled that they are coming along for this journey of sisterhood.
I am so proud that I am taking this journey with other women who look like me, and black women who took a chance on themselves. The most exciting part of it all for me at this moment is that the possibilities are endless as to where this can all go, and how much it can grow, and with that growth comes the exposure for each business we feature in every issue.
Starting your own publication completely from scratch comes with a lot of learn-as-you-go and trial and error. There were some growing pains, but those are the times that really let you know if this is something you want to continue doing. It is easy to quit when things are not going smoothly, but I am in this for the long haul. I rolled up my sleeves, did further research, and got over the bumps in the road.
I would like the world to know that black women are more than just your fashion muse. We are resilient, innovative, smart, creative and well worth the opportunity to do business with us. Whether you shop with us, or invest in our business, we are so much more than society has conditioned some to believe. That is what this brand is about. It’s about throwing the curtain back and letting the world see us as the business leaders that we have proven to be time and time again.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am not a Los Angeles Native, but when visiting these are the spots that I enjoyed:
For a soul-food fix, be sure to hit up Fixin’s! The decor reminds you of a back home kitchen filled with nostalgia. The music was everything, and the food portions were enormous!
The Marina del Ray was absolutely stunning! For brunch, SALT restaurant was the chef’s kiss.
Looking for a bougie vibe, dine at The Rooftop at The Wayfarer Downtown LA. Nothing like dining amongst the Los Angeles Skyline.
For nighttime entertainment, the soulful grooves at the very sexy Lily Rose, also located at The Wayfarer Downtown LA, will get you right.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
This is very easy for me. I would like to shoutout black women, small business owners. If not for their support and belief in this publication, it simply could not exist.
