Meet Heather Ayers | Actor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Heather Ayers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Heather, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Work/Life balance can be especially challenging as a performer due to how last minute the work part can be. As much as we would love to plan the life part, other people are setting our timeline. Our jobs are temporary, so we constantly have to be searching for that next gig. There are countless things that are out of our control., so finding things we CAN control can help us keep some sanity within the uncertainty. Making work for ourselves such as creating characters, prepping songs, writing memoirs, or designing cabarets keep our creative juices flowing. Reading scripts with friends, creative hobbies, continued learning… make us well rounded artists with experiences to use in our work.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was just chatting with a younger colleague about this the other day! During my early days of auditioning, I wanted to be molded – to have the casting director and director tell me exactly what they wanted from me. I had so many options to give! Now I understand that it’s importantly to simply show the best version of me. Making a bold choice and committing to it completely shows the creative team your confidence as a performer.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in NYC, but when I get to be in LA, a perfect day includes brunch at Sunset Towers, a walk up to The Griffith Observatory, a late afternoon nap, dinner at All Time, and finally, a concert at The Greek!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Shoutout is always and forever to my amazingly talented sibling, Becca Ayers. They make me cry every time I hear them sing. The way they are able to connect to lyrics and give themselves over completely to the character through song is captivating. We are incredibly lucky that our parents have always been supportive of whatever we wanted to be. So my second Shoutout is to them! Bob Ayers was a tap dancer and an excellent jazz drummer. Mary Ayers listened to Broadway albums with her sister Margie every Sunday while they cleaned the house. They both instilled a love of music and performance in us.
