We had the good fortune of connecting with Carla D. Stanton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carla D., what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my business was to provide an enhanced experience for expecting mothers to better connect with their baby during pregnancy. The lack of insurance authorization plays a big role in limiting the number of ultrasounds a doctor can allow an expecting mother to have. During the nine months of pregnancy, the average number of ultrasounds an expecting mother will have is only two. For most expecting mothers, ultrasounds are the only window they have to connect with their baby. For others, ultrasounds are a critical way of bringing them the peace of mind that their baby’s heart is still beating. As a mother myself, and as a woman who has grieved from a pregnancy loss, my goal was to create a place where insurance was not the limiting factor and where expecting mothers can make an appointment at any time during their pregnancy. Twinkle Twinkle My Little Star is a place where expecting mothers can connect with their baby while having their close loved ones at their side during the ultrasound experience.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets us apart from the rest of pregnancy ultrasound clinics is the love and passion we put into the business every day. When I decided to pursue my business, I wanted our expecting mothers to feel safe and offer them a place where they can receive the best care. I thoughtfully thought out every detail, starting with our warm and welcoming office decor. When our expecting families walk into the office they feel as if they are walking into their nursery at home. The ultrasound machine we use is the number one choice for prenatal care. I wanted to invest in the top performing machine to be able to give our expecting mothers the clarity and safety they may not receive elsewhere. When it came to hiring my team, I only looked to hire sonographers that had a degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography with at least five years’ experience and/or Board Certification in obstetrics and gynecology. Equally important was for each team member to have empathy for our expecting mothers and their babies. In the three years we have been operating, I am extremely proud of how far my team and I have taken Twinkle Twinkle My Little Star. My team and I have landed partnerships with some of the nation’s leading companies in obstetrics and have had over one thousand expecting families put their trust in us. The road of course was not easy and every day we run into challenges. However, I turn those challenges into learning lessons to improve Twinkle Twinkle My Little Star every day, week, month and year. I am excited for the future of my company and eventually would like to have several clinics nationwide.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in one of the most interesting cities in the world, there’s a little bit of everything in Los Angeles and I love hosting my family and friends, especially the ones that are visiting for the first time. Here is a breakdown of what a typical week would look like if I were your tour guide. Day 1 of their arrival, I’m sure they are exhausted from traveling so we’ll make day one as a day to relax and catch up. I’ll pick them up from the airport and we’ll grab a burger from the iconic California fast food restaurant In-N-Out. We’ll then drive to my house and have them settle in the guest bedroom (if they choose to stay there). Day two we’ll wake up early and leave the house by 8 am to grab a coffee from my favorite hip coffee shop Federal Coffee then head over to do the Hollywood Sign hike, it’s a staple of Los Angeles, so I’d love for them to experience it. Afterwards we’ll grab some lunch at Wally’s in Beverly Hills. In the evening we’ll stop by LACMA before heading to dinner at a rooftop Italian bar and restaurant Funke. Day three we would walk down Abbot Kinney and ride bikes in Santa Monica to visit the pier. For lunch we would stop by Elefante. For dinner we would get dressed up and do a dinner and a show at Mainro. Day four we would drive up to Malibu to see the Getty Museum and have lunch at Geoffrey’s. For dinner we would go to Beverly Hills and have dinner at Steak 48. For the last day we will walk down Rodeo Drive and have lunch at 208. In the evening we’ll catch a basketball game at Crypto.com arena and have dinner at Wolfgang Puck.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve been fortunate to come across several great people that have made a positive impact in my career. I would like to give a special shoutout to my biggest supporters, who have been at my side from day one or shortly thereafter. I’d like to begin with my husband, Ryan. He has been my number one supporter, starting with my education, all the way through helping me establish my ultrasound clinic, Twinkle Twinkle My Little Star. His patience and words of encouragement continue to push me in becoming the best version of myself each and every day in my career. Another person I would like to recognize is my lead sonographer, Janelle. I could not ask for a better person. She shows up to work every day with a great attitude and always makes sure our expecting families leave happy. She is a big reason my company is where it is today. I look forward to continuing growing Twinkle Twinkle My Little Star with her by my side. Lastly, I would like to recognize my daughter, Zyla. She motivates me to continue working hard at my business. I do this all for her.
