We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Susdorf and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In 2013, I had the opportunity to branch off from being a stylist in a large salon to owning my own studio salon. I took the leap and within 2 years of becoming a licensed stylist and building my clientele, I had my own salon. It was mine. It was only me. But in 2015, 2 short years later, I grew into the largest studio salon with a team behind me, a bridal team that offered Hair and Makeup. Within the 18 months, my team grew out of that Studio salon and I opened my very own store front Salon in Feb of 2018.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The beauty industry is something constantly growing and evolving with the never ending trends. I have always said that I don’t have an addictive personality yet my addiction is Chaos, I love the hustle, the constant trends, the continuous education, the freedom to be creative in my own mind, influencing other young business owners to never stop, aspiring to become recognized that you can do anything you put your mind to. My best friend always says, “You can fit the whole refrigerator into a lunch box.” And she’s not wrong. It’s one of my secret talents (wink wink).

Growing up, I played soccer. I played through High School and into College. I learned at a young age that I would have to prove myself on the field to stay on the field. I feel like my athletic background gave me my work ethics. I know that my passion is my craft, its what makes me so happy. But I also know that I have to prove to my clients and future clients that I can achieve any and all looks that they bring to me but I can achieve that look even better,

Moving into my 14th year of being a stylist and 11th year of being salon owner, I have learned so much about myself, those who have worked under me and who I can always count on. This is cut throat industry that can be made beautifully as long as we continue to spread the love to each other. It’s easy to criticize others and their work, but its so warm and refreshing when someone gives you a compliment when you least expect it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had one week with my Best friend, what trouble we could get into! HAHA The views and sunsets at Griffith Observatory has always been on my “to Do’ list. That would be one place to go, especially on a summer evening. I am a huge sucker for the beach. Although I hate the sand, I will always dig my toes into the sand. Venice Beach is interesting for those who want to venture into some awesome artistic and creative people but Malibu has my heart.
I love the Cornell Winery as it is tucked away in the Agora Hills and the atmosphere is so serene it hits you in all the feel goods. Plus the assortment of wine is so satisfying.
Of course hitting up one of the theme parks, Disneyland or Knotts Berry Farm are gems, but I would love to spend an entire day at Universal Studios but behind the scenes. I would love to be on set one day. Be behind the scene of a run way. Doing runway hair is a dream for me… but the time, I don’t think I can spare that away from my family and children.
Looking into a relaxing day would be so nice at The WestLake Village inn. One of my favorite places to get a bride ready. It really has everything to make your stay so unbelievable.
Who doesn’t love a good baseball game at Dodger Stadium or a football game at the beautifully built Sofi stadium?
And of course, a whole day in Hollywood!! Seeing all the iconic stops, maybe get on one of those double decker buses to show them what the city is truly all about.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My success and accomplishments would not be possible if it wasn’t for my team behind me, Taylor Kakiki, Kailey Spiteri, Genessis Baes, Abby Linn, Amanda Arce, Savannah Stephen, Candice Kakiki and Bren Vicknair
