We had the good fortune of connecting with Andrew Nunez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Andrew, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose to pursue an artistic/creative career simply because of my love for art. In undergrad, i studied art alongside my peers and nothing else had really fulfilled me in that particular way. Being able to create for the sake of self expression has always been something that has intrigued me. That being said, i think my love for art has evolved as i am now choosing makeup as my main medium. I truly appreciate the idea of conceiving and idea that will then translate onto a physical form. I believe that that’s why i love makeup so much. It really allows me to make things unconditionally.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being an artist for as long as i can remember has been a very healing experience for me. I never once saw myself conforming to a conventional job. Those things were always very mundane to me. As a kid Ive always loved drawing portraits. I believe that i can attribute that to my love for getting to know others. At first, i wasn’t sure if i could sustain making art for a living. However, as Ive grown into my artistry, Ive found makeup to be such an amazing outlet for me. It has allowed me to create what i would call “paintings” on numerous canvases. I think that that’s what really makes this all worth it. Being able to create while getting to know others is beautiful. I always aim to be inclusive and to create a safe space when others collaborate with me. So far, all i can say is that Ive met some great people who have lifted me up and kept me going. That being said, im very excited to be producing my very own lookbook this year. I really want to make something that transcends the physical realm. Being able to use makeup as a medium is great because it allows for world building. Im really excited to show others what i can do.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Los Angeles is full of various things to do. From different cultures to exhibitions, great food, etc, there is always something to do. I personally love to spend time with friends at these beautiful parks like Elysian, Vista Hermosa, etc. Apart from just chilling in nature, Koreatown has theeee best KBBQ spots. After eating I love to enjoy a little night out at some of the raves that my friends DJ at. Im very spontaneous so really anything goes.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a shoutout to one of my best friends Bishop Elegino who’s an amazing photographer/human being. When i started out freelancing makeup, they were one of the few photographers that i started working with to build my portfolio. As time went on we realized that our creative chemistry was incomparable. I love working with people who are just as boundless and as daring as i am. Bishop is the one i can count on to just have fun and create for the sake of loving what we do.
