We had the good fortune of connecting with Katherine Fleischman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katherine, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The inception of Do Tell PR was driven by a passion for amplifying the voices of small brands with innovative ideas that were often drowned out in the competitive marketplace. As a publicist, my thought process revolved around addressing a significant gap in the industry – the lack of affordable and accessible PR solutions for emerging businesses.

In the world of public relations, I recognized that smaller brands with unique offerings often struggled to gain visibility due to the high costs associated with traditional PR services. Many of these entrepreneurs possessed compelling stories, groundbreaking products, or services that deserved recognition, but the financial constraints posed a significant barrier to their success.

I aimed to create a platform that would democratize access to public relations. Do Tell PR became a vehicle to empower those businesses that lacked the financial resources to engage with high-end and expensive PR firms. By doing so, I envisioned not only providing a voice for these small brands but also contributing to a more diverse and inclusive landscape within various industries.

My thought process delved into the belief that every brand, regardless of its size or budget, deserves the opportunity to tell its story and connect with its target audience. Do Tell PR became a conduit for change, breaking away from the traditional model to offer cost-effective PR solutions without compromising on quality or impact.

I aimed to foster a community of entrepreneurs who could navigate the complexities of the media landscape and gain the attention they rightfully deserved. The emphasis was not just on securing press coverage but on crafting compelling narratives that resonated with both media outlets and the end consumers.

In essence, my decision to start Do Tell PR was rooted in a commitment to enabling small brands with good ideas to thrive in an environment where their stories could be heard, appreciated, and celebrated.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Certainly! My professional journey has been a dynamic exploration marked by a commitment to innovation, a passion for collaboration, and a dedication to continuous learning. Here’s a glimpse into what sets me apart, the milestones I’m proud of, and the lessons learned along the way.

What Sets Me Apart:
I believe what sets me apart is my unwavering commitment to combining creativity with strategy. In the world of PR, I’ve always sought innovative solutions that not only meet the immediate needs of my clients but also position them for long-term success. I pride myself on a holistic approach that fuses creativity, data-driven insights, and a deep understanding of industry trends.

Moreover, my dedication to building meaningful connections within the professional community and fostering collaborative efforts distinguishes my approach. I view each project as an opportunity to create not just deliverables but lasting partnerships that contribute to mutual growth.

Professional Journey and Challenges:
My journey to this point has been a fulfilling yet challenging one. Like any path, it had its share of obstacles, but each challenge became an opportunity for growth. One significant hurdle was moving my business from NYC to Miami, which required perseverance to overcome. The hiring process was also a challenging one, which led me to currently freelance. This experience taught me the importance of adaptability and resilience in the face of adversity.

Throughout my career, I’ve embraced a mindset of continuous learning. Every project, success, or setback has been a valuable lesson. Whether it was navigating shifts in the industry landscape or adapting to evolving client needs, I approached each challenge as an opportunity to refine my skills and broaden my perspective.

Lessons Learned:
– Adaptability is Key: The ability to adapt to change is paramount in any dynamic industry. Embracing change as an opportunity rather than a hindrance has been a guiding principle in my professional journey.

– Collaboration Fuels Innovation: Meaningful collaboration with diverse perspectives fosters creativity and innovation. I’ve learned that the most successful outcomes often result from a collective effort.

– Never Stop Learning: The pace of change in [your field] is rapid. Staying curious and committed to continuous learning is essential to staying ahead of the curve and offering clients the best solutions.

What I Want the World to Know:
At the core of my brand is a commitment to excellence, creativity, and collaboration. I want the world to know that I am not just a publicist but a partner in my client’s success stories.

As I continue to evolve professionally, my aim is not only to deliver exceptional results but also to inspire others in the industry to embrace change, pursue innovation, and build lasting connections.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Enter the lush Fairmount Miramar Hotel & Bungalows, located in the heart of Santa Monica, facing the beautiful beaches. All property outlets are COVID-friendly including FIG Restaurant, Dogtown Coffee (an outpost of the standalone location in Venice, where the Z-Boys coined extreme skating and surfing), Lobby Lounge, The Bungalow, Exhale Spa, Lloyd’s Barbershop, Glam + Go, Atelier Fine Jewelry (the in-house jeweler made a custom piece for Lady Gaga!), and Vilebrequin. With contactless, digital temperature readers at every hotel entrance and their partnership with ALLSafeandWell.com, the expansive five acres allow for guests to spread out and feel comfortable while enjoying the property.

Serving as an outdoor event venue with a beautiful 140-year-old Moratan bay fig tree overlooking the space, even weddings are a spectacle, while also COVID-friendly. Exhale offers massages on the balcony and their yoga and barre classes are hosted under the majestic tree. Another option is the outdoor fitness center on a grass turf area with pelotons galore. There is even a virtual golf course that allows for golf aficionados to play any course around the USA.

With 31 bungalows and three segments dividing the property into sections (all with a different spin on unique interior design concepts from various eras), the Fairmount takes up the biggest block in Santa Monica. Their outdoor lobby lounge was recently renovated, with fire pits at every table and an ocean terrace available for large parties requiring a spectacular sunset view. With less than a mile to Santa Monica pier and 100 miles of bike path to explore, visitors can hop on a bike cruiser and see the sites or have lunch on Third Street Promenade.

FIG, the restaurant in the hotel, is a neighborhood-bistro classic offering fresh, seasonal cuisine. The menu highlights diverse Southern California bounty, sourced from local farmers markets. Executive Chef Jason Prendergast, trained in the classic French tradition, brings a fresh, modern style of cooking that hones in on the essentials flavors of each ingredient. Following COVID-safe guidelines, guests are able to sit in the courtyard and enjoy the view overlooking the hotel under the happy lights. Some of the must-haves on the menu include the Charred Carrots and Corn, Baby Yams, the Flannery Beef Bone-In Center Cut NY Strip with Rosemary Fries, the Foraged Mushroom Black Truffle Pizza with Taleggio, Chives & Wild Arugula, and for dessert, the Warm Chocolate Chip Cookies are both crispy and melt in your mouth at the same time.

The hotel is pet-friendly and does not charge a pet fee, with complimentary pet beds, water bowls, and welcome treats for furry guests.

Take a walk around the beach and watch the sunrise and sunset, and try some of the beach yoga in the beach
Cruise on the bike path that runs for 30 miles along the beach.
Check out the 600+ acre Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve. The reserve is a protected haven for native flora and fauna, a surprising bit of coastal sanctuary in Los Angeles county. Immerse in nature in your off-hours. It’s soothing to sit on the deck with your morning coffee and watch Great Blue Herons glide over the wetlands.
A Seaside sojourn and wine country escape is the perfect escape, while staying safe and away from crowds.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Absolutely! The journey to where I am today has been shaped by the invaluable support, mentorship, and encouragement from various individuals and resources. If I were to dedicate a shoutout, it would undoubtedly go to my clients and the community that has played a pivotal role in my professional development.

First and foremost, I want to express my gratitude to Nik the Chic Chef, whose belief in my PR services has been instrumental in my career path. Her word of mouth has helped my business grow tremendously.

I would also like to acknowledge the incredible community of professionals and peers who have been an endless source of inspiration and encouragement. The collaborative spirit within this community has created a nurturing environment where ideas are shared, challenges are discussed, and collective success is celebrated. It’s a reminder that success is not a solitary pursuit but a collaborative effort fueled by the collective wisdom of the community.

I want to dedicate this shoutout to my family and friends who have been my unwavering support system. Their encouragement during both triumphs and challenges has provided the emotional foundation necessary to pursue my goals with resilience and determination. My son Leo, and my boyfriend Jacopo and my parents for guiding the way.
