We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaylin Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaylin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?

I launched this brand because it’s what I’ve always dreamed of doing. Fashion design has always been my passion, but I couldn’t afford to attend fashion school. So, I chose business during my four years in undergrad, and unfortunately, I lost that initial passion. After graduation, I felt lost, like I wasn’t pursuing my dreams. That’s when I decided to take the leap. I started this brand to encourage women in our community to follow their dreams too.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My brand is like a growing kid right now, starting small but aiming to become something big and full of character. I’m excited about partnering with Wolf & Badger – it’s a game-changer for the brand’s growth. Business-wise, it’s no walk in the park. I’ve been hustling since day one, juggling tasks, and facing the challenges of being a business owner. It’s tough – short on staff, dealing with debts, taking risks – feels like the world might end at times, but the payoff is amazing. I love seeing people excited about what I create. I’m figuring out that success takes time; that’s the key, time. In that time, it’s tempting to risk it all for success, but you gotta still be standing when you get there. Slow and steady is the way to make it happen.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d probably eat a lot! Dallas has amazing food places. Gotta go to Kitchen & Kocktails by Kevin Kelly for starters and grab some fried green tomatoes at Ida Claire’s, but any appetizer works. Can’t miss Fuel City – their tacos are unreal. Then, a trip to North Park for Eataly and a walk on Bishop Ave. in the Bishop Arts District. Live music, karaoke, awesome pizza, shopping, and sweets – it’s all there.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I really want to shout out my mom because she’s amazing. She’s been a fighter, a hero, a mom, and a friend to me. No matter what life throws at her, she never gives up. I design for women like her—strong and caring. Looking back, I’d tell my mom to go after her dreams, not instead of us, her kids, but alongside us. Live life with no regrets, be who YOU want to be. My mom’s sacrifices helped shape us into amazing people. It might not have been the easiest to chase dreams and be a mom, but now we live in a world where anything is possible.

I also want to thank Sasha Lynn Greene. She inspired me, teaching me about makeup, hair, nails, and all that stuff. Her big earrings, big eyelashes, lip gloss, and colorful outfits brought me so much joy. She fueled my dreams and made me fall in love with fashion. She created a space where I could be myself. Sadly, she’s no longer here, but I wish I could have thanked her in person.
