We had the good fortune of connecting with Denise Young and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Denise, what inspires you?
I am inspired by comfort, beauty and usefulness. I love that my textiles check all of these boxes.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a textile artist and I believe that my work celebrates and spotlights the fabric itself. Whether they are linen napkins or pillows made from vintage French fabric, each of my pieces has to feel good and make you want to use it. I think what makes my pieces stand out is that I love using them myself and I think you can feel the love behind it.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a Los Angeles native and we are so lucky to have so many special places to visit. I would be sure to take any visitors to Malibu. I love the vibe there and it has the ability to energize me and relax me simultaneously. Go to the beach, drive thru the canyons…. open the sunroof and just make a whole day of it stopping anywhere that struck our fancy. I would also take them to see the Hollywood Sign – – I still get excited when I see it! While we’re over there, we’d go to the Griffith Observatory and then maybe a farmer’s market then home to make a delicious dinner. We’d also need to visit Galerie Half on Melrose and daydream about furnishing all of the beautiful homes we’ve envisioned ourselves in during our drives throughout the city. We’d also have to be sure to hit The Rose Bowl, Santa Monica or Long Beach Flea Market. This friend visiting is pre- or post-COVID, right???

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow. My “success” has been all about opportunities and support. Delphine Lippens with Humble Ceramics, Eileen O’Dea with The Wooden Palate and Chef Brian Reimer with Farmshop have all opened doors for me that I still can’t believe! Their support has meant the world to me and I truly could not thank each of them enough.
