Hi Sade, how does your business help the community?
Provide attention and support to students individual needs; decrease middle school and high school dropout rates; increase students meeting and exceeding grade level standards; lower depression and suicide rates, as well as aggressive and volatile behavior; increase the economy’s workforce rates; raise grades, test scores, homework time, and class participation; increase college graduation rates.

In detail:
1. Decrease middle school and high school dropout rates. By implementing targeted interventions and strengthening our tutoring program, we can provide the necessary resources and guidance to keep students engaged and motivated throughout their educational journey. As a result, we can expect an increase in students meeting and exceeding grade level standards, leading to improved academic outcomes.

2. Improving our community’s mental health landscape. By addressing depression and suicide rates, as well as aggressive and volatile behavior, through our counseling services, we can provide essential support for our adolescent youth. By nurturing their emotional well-being, we contribute to a healthier and more resilient community.

3. Potential to positively impact our local economy. By increasing the economy’s workforce rates, we empower our students to become productive members of society. Through enhanced educational opportunities and improved academic performance, we can create a skilled and competent workforce, fueling economic growth and prosperity.

4. Extends to academic achievements, with the potential to raise grades, test scores, homework time, and class participation. By investing in tutoring services and homeschooling programs, we can provide personalized attention and tailored educational experiences, promoting academic excellence among our students.

5. Increase in college graduation rates. By establishing partnerships with local middle schools and expanding our counseling and tutoring services, we are creating a seamless educational pathway for students, preparing them for higher education and future success.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
What We Do: CORE 4 Learning provides private educational services, virtually and in-person, to children ages 4.9-18, in small groups (of 4) or individual settings, prompting collaboration and hands-on learning. Our tutoring services complement and extend the learning that takes place in school. In addition, our homeschool program covers six subjects- reading, writing, math, science, history, language, and physical education- and establishes foundational skills while preparing students for their transition to middle school. Moreover, our counseling services assist our adolescent youth in understanding themselves and the worlds around them by building communication skills through public speaking. During summer, we offer a five-week long workshop for families to refresh skills and prepare students for the upcoming school year. Lastly, we aim to increase our funding to enable annual international trips and unforgettable educational experiences for our students.

Watching him navigate the entrepreneurial landscape has helped me lay the foundation of my own business and instilled in me an unwavering determination, especially during challenging times. A special shoutout goes to Avianta Robertson, a woman who has been in the business for over fifteen years. Through her partnership and unwavering commitment to excellence, I have learned the importance of demanding nothing short of the best. Avianta runs STAR Academics with exceptional efficiency, and while she didn’t hold my hand, she provided me with invaluable opportunities to learn and grow. Her influence has been transformative, and I am grateful for her role in shaping my professional journey.

3. Dana Means – The Magical Teacher:
My god-mother, Dana Means, deserves a special mention in this tribute. As my former fifth-grade teacher, she made teaching look like magic. Dana’s exceptional ability to make every child feel special and loved, as if they were her own, planted the seed of passion for education within me. Her dedication and nurturing spirit are the reasons I chose to pursue a career in teaching. I am forever grateful for her profound impact on my life and for showing me the true power of education. She is now a Principal of an independent charter school, Century Community Charter School, in Inglewood. She has been extremely support to our programming in providing laptops and allow us to use their campus during the summer for our summer programming.

4. My Mother – The Pillar of Support:
Last but certainly not least, I want to express my deepest appreciation to my mother. Her unwavering support and encouragement have allowed me to run my business from home, an invaluable privilege. She has embraced every family we have welcomed into our village and showered them with love and care, as if they were her own. Her role as a nurturing and loving soul has been a constant source of inspiration and strength for me. I am incredibly grateful for her unwavering love and support.
