We had the good fortune of connecting with Akshie Jhaveri and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Akshie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The ability to bring high quality diamonds to a larger audience and not limiting it to the top 1% of the world. Everyone can now have access to these diamonds without breaking the bank. Our diamonds are made to celebrate Your special moments, Your achievements, and milestones. This is why we make ‘Diamonds that Deserve You’.

What should our readers know about your business?
Grown Brilliance started off as a passion project, offering 100% conflict free diamonds in a quality much higher than what we see at most jewelers who sell mined diamonds. The goal was to build a sustainable company that offers a wide range of styles yet keeps the designs classic and timeless. In the 3 short years of us being in business, I’m most proud and excited for the 8 boutiques that we have across the US, especially our largest one which is in L.A! I could have never imaged that we would open these gorgeous boutiques where GB guests can walk in, try out 100s of different pieces of lab grown diamond jewelry, be able to design their own engagement ring with expert help from our unbelievable jewelry specialists, learn more about how lab grown diamonds are created, get access to jewelry pieces that are offered only at their local GB Boutique and all in an environment that is casual, warm and welcoming. When you have a goal in mind, the journey becomes easy. Being a mom of two boys, I always think about what we are leaving behind for our future generations. The jewelry industry has since centuries been associated with child labor, funding weapons and destroying hundreds of thousands of acres of land due to their mining efforts. All for finding a diamond that sparkles. But now that we can create these diamonds, in a laboratory, without any of the harm, AND control the quality to get cleaner, whiter and shinier diamonds, then why not? Through this journey, the biggest challenge is making sure everything is ethically sourced and clean. We are proud to say that we use 96% recycled gold, 100% conflict free diamonds and 100% recyclable packaging made of sustainable materials. Our entire supply chain is 100% carbon off-set as well. Our goal is to be 100% carbon neutral by the end of 2025. The lessons I’ve learned are that there are truly no shortcuts to success, and knowing your business thoroughly is the only way you can achieve the goals you have set.
Grown Brilliance is a brand that creates stunning, ethically-made diamonds that are brilliantly set in a range of classic designs. Ours is a truly customer-first stance. Because we believe in the best of our customers. We believe in their brilliance. These are diamonds that deserve You.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Day 1: I would suggest staying close to our Grown Brilliance LA boutique in Melrose Place not because it is near the boutique but because of its magnificent restaurant scene! SOHO HOUSE West Hollywood is a great choice. Relax in the afternoon walking around the stunning shops at Melrose Place. Dinner at CAVIAR KASPIA for the atmosphere (the most beautiful garden to dine in!) or ROSALINE, which has an incredible vegetarian and vegan menu (for plant-based foodies)!
Day 2: Visit Santa Monica. Breakfast at LA LA LAND KIND CAFÉ, their lavender bloom latte and m.a.k.a. toast are delicious! A walk on the blvd after which I would encourage them to enjoy a massage at Shutters on the Beach in their fabulous ONE SPA.
As a foodie, I treasure evenings that involve both great music and good food. ÉLEPHANTE in Santa Monica never disappoints – three bars with hand-crafted cocktails, custom furniture and design pieces from Northern Africa and Southern Italy, ocean views, and DJ nights … the perfect way to unwind after a long day and enjoy their whipped eggplant with their signature cocktail (a decadently refreshing mix of passion fruit, lemon, almond or great, montenegro, Calabrian chili, and gin.)

Day 3: Always a visit to the GETTY VILLA, the drive alone on the Pacific Coast highway is fabulous, but the architecture of the villa and the landscaping take you to Italy, the art is inspiring, and the views are unbeatable.

Day 4: LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) is always on the must-visit list. If there is no time to wander through the marvelous art on display, the forest of city street lights, called URBAN LIGHT by artist Chris Burden in front of the museum is a place where noise succumbs and you always see something different. I’m always inspired by my visits here. I’m all about eating organic and from sustainable sources. So, there’s no doubt that my favorite coffee spot in LA, is AQUARELA’S Brazilian farm to table, micro-roasted in LA coffee. We can marvel at the stunning architecture of the downtown location while sipping our coffee 😊

Day 5: Sleep in and head out for a late brunch at Chef John Fraser’s jungle themed restaurant at the Edition – Helmed. It’s all about veggies here, from raw dishes to delicious pastries, you just cant go wrong with the menu. It’s the perfect pot for a fancy yet relaxed vibe. You could totally start at lunch and end up staying for evening cocktails, it’s that good!

Day 6: Lastly, if I want to bring a little SoCal home to New York, I stop at +COOP, Jenna Coopers interiors store on Beverly Boulevard. Not only can you find the most unique gifts here, but her curated selection of handmade pieces also never disappoints, and for someone who loves to cook there is always something for my kitchen to be found here.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
This might sound cliched, but being raised by a single mom since the age of 16, in a country like India, has taught me a myriad of lessons growing up. From being resilient and standing up for yourself when you know you are right, to believing in yourself that anything is possible, these are lessons that my mom taught me all along. So I would dedicate this shoutout to her.
