We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacey Firth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stacey, why did you pursue a creative career?

Being creative fills my life up with joy!

I’m a firm believer that we all need a creative outlet that brings us happiness. I do not take on any photography jobs that “feel” like work – I only say yes to ones that align with who I am and that I am genuinely excited to do.

Even though I have created a business, I want every day to feel like it’s a hobby.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I started photography with the intention of helping women feel beautiful in their own skin. After doing my own boudoir session years ago, that feeling stuck with me and I wanted to bring that to others. Life got busy but when Covid hit and my fitness business was shut down – I picked up my camera and decided to take one happy photo a day to help me stay sane. I taught myself how to edit and started getting followers. All of a sudden I was getting asked to photograph people for money, it blew my mind! It was an accidental business but off I went!

It’s taken many, many photoshoots, model calls, trial and error, research etc. to get really comfortable with boudoir photography. I’m now 4 years in and I feel confident in my skills, proud of my work, and now educating others.

I believe that boudoir photographers should come from a genuine place. It’s a very intimate and vulnerable type of session and we should truly understand and appreciate that feeling that our clients feel.

After doing boudoir for a few years, I have now branched out to intimate couples which I absolutely love. Capturing human connection in an intimate setting is so special.

Over the years I have just grown to love capturing all moments – the vulnerable ones of boudoir, the love stories, the newborn hiccups… you name it.

My biggest lesson is to follow your heart – do the things that make you happy. I started off doing a ton of branding photos and saying yes to everything but it was sucking my soul dry. Once I started saying no to the things I didn’t want to do, it opened more doors to the things I wanted to do!
Say no to make room for those yeses!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

First and foremost we are hitting up my brand-new studio @peachpittstudio for some fun photos! Wrapping it up with flights of beer from the brewery across the street.

Then we would pack up our stuff and head to downtown Vancouver for a staycation.

Dinner, drinks, hot tub, spa… whatever we want. Watching movies in our robes, making ridiculous reels, and having all the margaritas.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

My husband because he supports every crazy dream I have in my head.

He has always stood behind me, picks up the household when I’m busy, encourages me to create and makes me dinner on the late days.

He’s my rock, my ride or die, I couldn’t do it without his support.
