We had the good fortune of connecting with Nathan Hemmens and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nathan, how do you think about risk?
When you’re taking risks, you first assess if you need to: Is the risk more than the reward? Once you know the answer to that, assuming the reward is greater than the risk, you want to map out a plan. If you’re going down a road you’ve never been down before, it’s always great to ask for directions from someone who has. Understanding this has played a vital role in my life because risk assessment is an important part of being an entrepreneur.
What should our readers know about your business?
I had a dream to open a martial arts school. I looked for a location for a couple years, not pushing the issue, but looking for something that would be a good fit. This goes back to good choices and risk assessment. If you’re going to be an entrepreneur, then you’re going to have to accept the unknown challenges that lie ahead: and there will be plenty. I overcame these challenges by not listening to people who don’t know what they’re talking about. This goes back to following the roadmap of someone who’s been down the road before. I’m here to help people, to challenge them to be better.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First of all, there’s no way I can tell you my top secret places. But I’ll mention a few others: at the top of Hollywood, Yamashiro Sushi to grab a bite on a Friday night with an amazing view. 71 and Above Downtown, which has another amazing view. Of course you have to see the world famous Santa Monica Pier, or Venice Beach. Although, I prefer the beaches north, closer to Malibu. That’s all you’re getting.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The list of people responsible for helping me in my success is extensive. I try to make an effort to thank all of them constantly. But to name a few: Marc, Tommy, Winston, Courtney, Jasmine, Dad, Mom, my siblings, my sons, and last but not least, God. Also a couple good books such as “Lincoln On Leadership”, “The Science of Getting Rich”, and “Applying The Power of Positive Thinking”.
