We had the good fortune of connecting with Thomas Crowell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Thomas, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose to pursue an artistic / creative career because it is very much in alignment with who I am as a person. Ever since I was young I’ve always been a creative person. I’ve created short films and stop motion animations, done video editing, and when I took interest in EDM music, particularly Dubstep, I naturally felt inspired to create my own music.

I personally believe that one of the greatest gifts we have being human is our power to create and imagine. I highly encourage everyone to take up some kind of creative hobby, it could be anything. My reasoning for this is because I believe that utilizing our creativity somehow “unlocks” or certainly utilizes further aspects of our brain capacity and could help us grow and realize our creative potential.

Why did I choose an artistic / creative career? Ultimately I did it for fun and the enjoyment of it. It is very satisfying knowing that I am building and creating something for myself. I enjoy the process of this journey and am looking forward to what will come. Personally for me I feel like being on this creative journey has given much meaning to my life, and I enjoy the aspect of being on this journey and seeing all of the progress I make along the way.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Dubstep Producer and DJ who enjoys creating music, performing, and DJing. I would describe my sound as: Dark, Grungy, Metallic, Aggressive and Atmospheric. The complexity of my song arrangements is what I take pride in, painting such a profound in depth structure which one can truly appreciate.

My Branding and Story is what makes me unique as a Dubstep Artist:
“I Am Mystic Wonder, the Sorcerer of Heavy Bass Music. As a Mystic, my Superpower is Sound Design, and I express that within my music. I like to think of playing my music as “Casting Spells”.”

All in all, I am still on my music journey. While I have certainly come far, I know that there is much more for me to learn and do. Some of the challenges I’ve faced in my journey have been navigating as a self taught artist. Not having a mentor to ask questions or help teach me things was challenging because I needed to figure certain things out on my own. I overcame these challenges by persevering and moving forward. I know that may sound cliché but it’s the truth. Eventually I found the answers I was looking for through experimentation or by finally finding what I was searching for after enough research and inquiring.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned along the way is that great things take time. In our world today of instant gratification, it is important to realize that great things take time and nothing happens overnight. Consistency is Key, being consistent, not giving up and continuing to move forward is the secret to making things happen.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Currently I am residing in Monrovia, California. This is a small town, the place where I grew up, and has a very relaxing chill vibe.

Some of the places I would recommend going to is first off Grey and Cash. This is one of my favorite places to get a coffee/tea, and has very delicious breakfast burritos too! Mama’s Juicery has great smoothies and juices, all organic and fresh. The Diplomat, fantastic Mediterranean food, my favorite appetizers are the fried cauliflower and the brussels sprouts. My favorite entrée there is the falafel plate, so good. Sena on Myrtle is another great spot, fantastic chips & guacamole, and delicious tacos.

Monrovia is a great place to walk around, small quaint neighborhoods which I enjoy venturing through and riding my bike. The Duarte Bike Trail is very close by, it’s a great place to go biking or walking, and there are some close hiking trails nearby. Even going for a walk through old town or into the Library Park is always a great time.

I love going off roading in my truck, I will often go up to San Gabriel OHV (Azusa Canyon) on the weekends. It’s always fun to go see people’s off roading, overlanding, and mudding builds of their vehicles.

Speaking of weekends, The Monrovia Street Fair happens every Friday Evening. They will close off Myrtle Ave, and street vendors will set up. They have Live Music, Food, fun thrifty items. The local businesses will stay open later while the fair is going further adding to the fun.

While this may not be the same as going to a bar or clubbing out somewhere like Hollywood or Downtown LA, I very much enjoy the relaxed family oriented vibe here in Monrovia.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
For me, I am a self taught artist. I did not have a mentor or teacher guiding me or showing me how to create music, this was all done by myself. I did have a few artists along my journey give feedback on my music which was helpful. With that being said however I am deeply grateful for the support I have received from my Friends and Family, as well as my Artist Friends as well. They have all given me encouragement and shown support along my journey. While I don’t want to leave anyone out, I will give some very special acknowledgements to my Father.

Back in 2014 my Father took me to my very first rave, seeing Flosstradamus at The Brooklyn Bowl at New York New York Hotel in Las Vegas. The next day we went to my very first festival, EDC Las Vegas. EDM music was new to both of us, so we had no idea what to expect going into it, but that experience changed both of our lives and certainly brought us very close.

That experience gave me the insight and inspiration to embark on my music journey, and my Father as well. Now he and I have been going to festivals and raves together ever since, n fact he has even gone out to see some of his favorite artists like Above & Beyond, Porter Robinson, Said The Sky, Illenium on his own. One of the coolest things about this is that my Dad is one of my biggest supporters in my music career, and it’s very special that it’s also from a Father Son relationship as well.
