We had the good fortune of connecting with Lilliana Winkworth and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lilliana, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
I’m all about vulnerability. As an audience member, it’s my favorite thing to see onstage. And as a performer, it’s my favorite thing to experiment with. Being vulnerable and sharing your experience through comedy has the power to make someone feel seen. We’re all weirdos doing our best, why not be honest about it?

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a comedian and writer who loves talking about all things mental health. My show, Sad Funny, which I co-host with Maggie Cannan, is a comedy show about the things that make you sad. I grew up with a lot of anxiety that I still struggle with today, so I wanted to create a safe space for performers to experiment with more vulnerable work. To me, storytelling and comedy are about connection, and I want to produce work that helps people feel less alone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I grew up in Los Feliz and Pasadena, so any LA itinerary of mine is full of stops in both towns. We’d start the day with tea at Alcove, then drive to San Marino for a walk at The Huntington Gardens. We’d spend the afternoon taking the train from Old Town to South Pasadena, then down to Highland Park window shopping and chatting. And, of course, we’d end the day at Figaro Bistro for the best happy hour in town.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ll shout out therapy! Also, the LA comedy community. Moments of connection with like-minded creators helps everyone’s work get better.
