Meet Sophie Gragg | Founder & Editor in Chief

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sophie Gragg and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sophie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting The Luna Collective was deeply rooted in my passion for music, curating, and connecting with other creatives. I wanted to create a space where diverse voices could connect and be celebrated. I felt a genuine need to fill a gap in the creative landscape, where emerging talents could find a platform to shine and connect with like-minded individuals.
My vision for The Luna Collective is centered around fostering a sense of community and collaboration, where artists and creators can come together to explore and showcase their talents. I just wanted to create a space where my passion for music and curation could thrive, while also providing a platform for others to share their stories and art.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I want people to know that Luna is not just a magazine; it’s a vibrant community of creatives brought together by a shared passion for music, art, and storytelling. What sets us apart is our commitment to nurturing emerging talents and providing a platform where diverse voices can shine. In addition to our online content and print magazines we create additional various print projects, merchandise, host art shows and concerts, provide grant and submission opportunities, online courses and virtual panels and more!
Starting Luna wasn’t easy but has been so worth it. I started Luna when I was 19 with pretty much no knowledge of running a magazine or starting a business. However, what I lacked in experience, I made up for with passion and determination. Every challenge I faced taught me valuable lessons in patience, perseverance, and the importance of building relationships.
Today, I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come. From humble beginnings, we’ve built a thriving community that celebrates creativity in all its forms. The journey has been rewarding, but it hasn’t been without its obstacles.
If there’s one thing I want the world to know about The Luna Collective, it’s that my story is a testament to the power of passion and discipline. If I, with my limited experience, could create this business and platform, then anyone with the same drive and commitment can do the same. Our brand is built on the belief that creativity knows no bounds, and with dedication and perseverance, anything is possible.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Restaurants: Coffee at Intellegista, Lunch at Sage, Geoffrey’s or The Ivy, Dinner at Gracias Madre, Mother Wolf or Perch. Entertainment: Depending on what shows are in town try to catch a show at The Hollywood Bowl, The Fonda, Echo, El Rey or The Shrine. Some good museums are the Getty or The Broad.
Hiking/Outdoors: Runyon is a classic but I prefer Escondido Falls in Malibu. Point Dume is beautiful if you end up making it out to Malibu. Echo Park is perfect for hanging out by the lake.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my incredible staff. From writers who have been with us since the beginning to new photographers and writers who have joined along the way, each member brings their unique talents and perspectives to our collective vision.
An extra big shoutout goes to my amazing team of editors who work to keep the lights on and ensure our content is consistent and always represents our vibe. Together, we’ve cultivated a creative, kind, and fun-loving atmosphere that fuels our collaborative efforts and drives the spirit of our team
I’m immensely grateful for each and every member of our team, past and present, whose dedication and passion continue to shape our story and elevate our collective vision.
