We had the good fortune of connecting with Erynn Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Erynn, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
In the last three months, my concept of work-life balance has drastically evolved as a result of my decision to leave my corporate full-time position and pursue a full-time entrepreneurial career. I’ve discovered that although being an entrepreneur can be flexible, it frequently requires more effort and time. In order to achieve that balance, I had to prioritize duties for both my personal and professional well-being, create boundaries for myself, and learn how to manage my time well in the first month.

It was incredibly difficult for me to adjust to not really knowing what your day would entail when you woke up every morning. For the majority of my life, I have worked in corporate settings or in educational institutions, so the idea of not having the same everyday guidelines scared me a little. But with the help of my significant other, my family, and friends, I began to approach each day piece by piece and establish a morning routine, at the very least.

I now make an effort to treat my calendar like a well-designed space by being patient and proactive. Set aside specific time for client meetings, work projects, and creative activities, making sure that the day is balanced. I’ve discovered that, because I genuinely enjoy working on projects, I might get carried away and have to set boundaries to protect my personal time and avoid burnout. I’m discovering a rhythm that fits my work and personal obligations, much as in design, where harmony is essential, to create a more balanced and satisfying business.

These days, balance means so much more to me. I was genuinely under the impression that there was no balance in corporate work—rather, it was more like a never-ending loop. Being a dancer myself, I view balance more as a dance than a cycle. The dancer, the music, the choreography, the energy in the space, and the bass pounding through the speakers are all constantly interacting with one another. The elements work together harmoniously to produce a stunning work of art. I now accept that balance is fluid, allowing for discovery, flexibility, and the realization that everything in my day is interconnected.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Rose Luxe Collections is a Los Angeles, California-based interior design company. As someone who grew up in a modestly-paid family in a less-than-ideal neighborhood, I firmly feel that everyone should be able to return home to a wonderfully constructed space. Similar to how cozy it was for me to construct my first flat. All people are entitled to that emotion, regardless of their financial situation, geography, race, or income level.

Undoubtedly, this journey has been marked by numerous challenges, particularly on an emotional level. The process of relocating across the country, leaving behind loved ones, and embarking on a pursuit of my dreams was incredibly difficult. However, upon arriving in Los Angeles, I was met with the devastating news of my grandmother’s passing. Coping with the immense grief while being physically distant from my support system was an additional hardship to overcome. Additionally, I was fighting the feeling of imposter syndrome as a self-taught designer. Adjusting to life in Los Angeles meant familiarizing myself with the available resources and understanding the dynamics of the design world in the city. Working with design firms helped me navigate and determine what would be the best fit for my creativity. Simultaneously, I faced the challenge of self-funding my business while working full-time to sustain myself. Despite these hurdles, I remained resilient and committed to my path, determined to overcome each setback and continue pursuing my passion for design.

All the while, we have created amazing environments! We are thrilled and happy that one of our created projects was acknowledged by Airbnb Luxe during the previous season, even though we were working on interesting new projects. The Luxe title that Penmar, our initiative, received proved that all of our effort had been worthwhile!

Growing up, I had to always be resourceful, use what I had and think outside of the box, so now I use those skills to transform spaces!

One aspect of my brand that fills me with immense pride is the fact that I built it from the ground up. While it may sound like a cliché, as a small-town girl from Cleveland, I could have never imagined having my own successful design business where I get to do what I love and collaborate with wonderful people from all around the world. Additionally, I take great pride in the relationships I’ve developed with my clients and their satisfaction with my work. Customer service is of utmost importance to me, and having started working at a young age, I learned the value of ensuring my clients are truly happy with the designs on each project I undertake.
