We had the good fortune of connecting with JUAN-DIEGO BORDA and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi JUAN-DIEGO, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think two things have helped my career grow: first, to have a work ethic, and professionalism When you commit to a project, any project big or small, do your best, be on time, make a positive impact. And second, knowing and exploiting your strengths and abilities. Use your talents and when necessary, partner or seek help in learning, or performing specific tasks.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think it all starts with a dream. When I was a teen I dreamed of becoming a professional in music. I learned to play instruments and formed bands. Then I left my country, Colombia for the United States to become a Music Producer. I had studied architecture, and I even got my Major degree, but I felt that was not my destiny. So I embarked on this new adventure of being an immigrant. Building brick by brick, one day at a time, I went to school again at UCLA to learn the craft of Music Production and Audio Engineering. Since then, I’ve lived through many experiences that have helped me to fulfill the dream, at least partially. I went on an international tour with a band named Palenke Soultribe, I have worked with some celebrities and have participated in beautiful artistic projects. But I have also had setbacks, ran out of money, felt down, etc… I think is human to live through different moments and it is important to embrace everything that happens to you.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I always show visitors the diversity of things to do in town. Paradoxically the most known place, Hollywood is my least favorite, and I always avoid it. Instead, I take friends for a DTLA tour trip that includes the Disney Hall, Biltmore Hotel, Central Market, and Little Tokyo. Then a couple of days to enjoy the beautiful nature that surrounds the city like Malibu, Griffith Park, and Palos Verdes. and to complete a couple of days enjoying the funkiest areas like Silver Lake, Melrose, or Venice.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am fortunate to have had an emotionally supportive family. For the love I have received, I have been able to navigate thru difficult times. In the end in the Creator, who provides all for us.
