We had the good fortune of connecting with Montse Soto and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Montse, why did you pursue a creative career?

Since I was a little girl, I dreamed of Hollywood and cinema. I’ve always wanted to tell stories. I remember the first time I went to the cinema and realized that I wanted to be there. At the age of six, while watching the Oscars, I promised myself that someday I would win an Oscar as the best actress representing my country and all those girls who dream of being actresses.
I studied a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Communication in Mexico. Later, I studied acting in Madrid and Los Angeles, and took some music courses at Berklee. Since then, life has taken me on creative paths. I strongly believe in the universe, and when my heart was broken, I started writing down everything I felt as therapy. Until one day, my writings turned into songs. Now, I aim for my music to resonate with people and for them to feel understood when their hearts are broken, because they are not alone. A year ago, I released my first single “Repair,” which marked my debut in music.. Currently, I am writing songs to release my first album. Cinema and music represent my greatest passions in life. I enjoy every part of the process, like developing and bringing new characters to life and preparing for castings daily.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Acting has taught me to deal with rejection, to overcome it, and to get up every day of my life fighting for the dream, even when I feel like giving up. I am a firm believer that all dreams can be achieved when you work for them, and although you may hear “no” a hundred times, you always have to strive for the “yes.” Since I was a child, the dream of being an actress and reaching Hollywood has been ingrained in my being, and I have wanted to give up many times. But I know that my inner six-year-old would be very proud of how far we’ve come. One of the reasons I continue in this career, aside from loving what I do, is that I want my inner child to feel proud that we pursued the dream and never gave up.

For me discpline is everything, and I believe it’s what has taken me far in life, not only in my career but personally as well. My mom has taught me from a young age that perseverance is the key to achieving any goal in life. Something I have learned recently is to enjoy every moment of life and to only worry about the present, to enjoy the journey towards my dream and not worry about what will happen tomorrow. I believe strongly in the law of attraction and believe that it depends on yourself where you want to be. If there’s something in your life that you don’t like, you have all the power to change it and live the life of your dreams just by believing in yourself and working hard every day.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First, we could go hiking or take a pilates class at “Forma Pilates”. Afterward, we could grab a smoothie at “Erewhon”. For brunch, we could go to “Laveta” or “Community Goods”, then do some shopping at The Grove, Rodeo Drive, or Melrose. I would take her to the Hollywood sign to admire the beauty of the city, make a mandatory stop at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, have dinner at “The Little Door”, and finish off the perfect day in LA with a Dodgers game.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family has always been everything in my life. My parents have supported me every step of the way, and a few years ago, I made a promise to my uncle. He was the first person to believe in me when I told him I wanted to be an actress. He’s no longer with me, but I know he always watches over me from heaven. Whenever I think about giving up, I remember him and tell myself to keep going because I have to fulfill that promise. A year ago, I was able to shoot my first film, and it was all thanks to the incredible director, Evan Snyder, who believed in me for this project that undoubtedly marked not only my career but also my personal life. I will always be grateful to him for the opportunity.
Throughout my career, I’ve had different teachers like Javier Alcina at Michelle Danner Acting School who have taught me various acting techniques that have helped me along the way.
