We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, why did you pursue a creative career?
Music is my favorite thing in the entire world and it’s all I’ve ever wanted to do. I’ve been drawn to anything and everything music since before I can even remember. I believe it’s important to do what you love every single day. I made the decision to follow my heart and my passion, which truly has brought an abundance of joy into my life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a multi-instrumentalist performer and producer. I’ve recently had the privilege to play some of the biggest shows in my life with the all female funk band “Klymaxx” alongside artists Cameo, Morris Day, The Dazz band, The P-Funk All Stars, The S.O.S band and more. Performing 4-6 nights a week is my happy place. I’ve been dedicating my “free time” to producing and recording my own music on the side. I’m in the works of my first album as we speak, which will cover a variety of my favorite genres. I’m writing and recording the album in my home studio and will be playing bass, keys, guitar, drums, and vocals alongside some friends that will be featured as well. Over the years I’ve been able to save small amounts of my income to invest back into gear/recording equipment/my career but I will say, it’s not easy living on your own as a full time musician. I’ve been lucky enough to work with some great people who inspire me to work harder and harder every day. I’ve found working hard and treating everyone with kindness and appreciation is the most important part of being a musician. As a performer I get to meet and inspire new people every day and with that, I truly hope to spread love and kindness with every interaction. Performing is my true love and passion, I believe in leaving it all on the stage, putting everything I can into the performance, doing the homework, showing up for everyone including myself and making positive personal connections are priority in what I do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a nature lover so my happy place outside of music would be in the mountains. Mt. Baldy is just up the road so I love showing friends the hiking trails up there. The sound of the running mountain water, the trees blowing in the wind and the fresh air is so grounding for me. There’s a lodge on the way up the mountain that has a fire place, pool tables, great music, food and cocktails. Some of my favorite spots to listen to live music would be The Baked Potato or Herb Alperts Vibrato jazz club. Always such great musicians to see there.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am lucky enough to have a huge support system that has helped shape me into the musician/performer I am today. My biggest mentors include a few close friends of mine Carl Restivo , Demian Arriaga, Dan Warren and Rosie Aldrete. Playing in bands like Pulp Vixen and Klymaxx where it’s a non stop high-energy performance, I’ve been able to really work on my on-stage confidence as a performer. My mom has been my biggest supporter since day 1 and I wouldn’t be where I am without her help and encouragement.
