Meet Tina Marie Davis | CEO & Founder of Soulful Soil Farms

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tina Marie Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tina Marie, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
As the CEO of Soulful Soil Farms, several habits have been instrumental in my journey to success. Firstly, self-discipline and consistency have been crucial. Maintaining a disciplined approach to my work ensures tasks are completed efficiently, and goals are steadily pursued. Additionally, the determination to not give up, even in the face of challenges, has been paramount. This relentlessness has allowed me to push forward and overcome obstacles, contributing to our progress. Flexibility in work hours has also played a significant role. Adapting to the demands of my organization often means there are no set work hours. This flexibility enables me to address tasks as they arise and ensures the smooth operation of our business. Networking has been another essential habit. Building relationships within the industry has provided valuable insights, opportunities, and support that have contributed to our growth. Effective communication is fundamental in leadership, and I prioritize clear and open communication with my team. This encourages collaboration and ensures everyone is aligned with our goals. Stepping out of my comfort zone has been necessary for personal and professional growth. Embracing new challenges and experiences has expanded my skills and broadened our horizons at Soulful Soil Farms. Having the courage to have tough conversations is another habit I’ve cultivated. Addressing difficult issues head-on creates transparency and enables us to resolve conflicts and challenges more effectively. Finally, being willing to do tasks that most people might shy away from has been essential. Whether it’s getting my hands dirty in the fields or tackling administrative tasks, no job is beneath me as the CEO. These habits, combined with passion, resilience, and a commitment to our mission, have been key drivers of our success

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My work revolves around more than just agriculture; it’s about community, building, empowerment and transformation. What sets us apart is our dedication to nurturing both individuals and communities. These gardens aren’t just about growing produce; they’re about bringing people together, providing sustenance, and encouraging healing. Through our community gardens, we not only feed people but also offer a form of therapy. Working with the soil and tending to plants can be incredibly therapeutic, promoting mental and emotional well-being. Additionally, these gardens beautify neighborhoods and create a sense of pride and ownership among residents.
I’m immensely proud of my team and our accomplishments in such a short time. We’re committed to continuing education and have pursued certifications to enhance our expertise in the field. One of our most exciting endeavors is the development of a youth felon program, “Roots to Redemption”. This is a program that we are currently building out, that aims to provide mentorship, gardening therapy, and resources to young individuals, reducing recidivism rates and offering them a second chance at a better future.
My professional journey began in corporate healthcare, where I spent 20 years honing my leadership skills as a director. Leading a team of 20 people taught me valuable lessons in delegation and teamwork, skills that have been instrumental in my role as CEO of Soulful Soil Farms.
As a black woman entrepreneur and mother of two, I’ve learned to juggle multiple responsibilities and wear many hats. While it hasn’t been easy, I believe this is my calling. My story is a testament to the power of self-discipline, consistency, and resilience. I want the world to know that with these skills, coupled with faith, anything is achievable. We all face challenges and setbacks, but it’s how we respond to them that truly defines us. Through staying positive and finding the lesson in every loss, we can overcome any obstacle.
