We had the good fortune of connecting with willy zogo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi willy, how do you think about risk?
There is a formula that says, the higher the risk the higher the return. It’ s the law of the nature you get what you deserve so to have a bigger impact you must take a very big risk especially with the competition we are facing nowadays, to be able to succeed in what you are doing you must take a big risk. for me i decided to stay focus on what i love to do and i have lost many friends because i don’t hangout much with them anymore i don’t spend much time talking on phone i just stay focus on what i love to do which is acting i have refused offers for others jobs it got me broke sometimes in my life but i am ok with that.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an actor and also i do basic stunt. but mostly i am an actor and i have been blessed to work with big names actors and directors worldwide. I love and always embrace challenges and i think my biggest one was coming from Africa to reach Asia to play basketball and study as i was looking for a scholarship then to transit and becoming an actor perhaps accidentally as Thailand was not even the destination i had in mind me leaving Cameroon expecting to reach Philippines and play basketball for an university there but first i decided to stop for 3 days to be with my best friend who was living in Bangkok and 3 days turned to 17 years now. Well after 3 days a voice inside of me was telling me to stay and i did then as i was broke and starving a friend took me to my first casting and i got the part it helps me surviving for a while then later on i got casted for my first movie called the 5th execution where i met micheal madsen at that time i was already in a basketball team but i left while we were on the playoff and went to shoot the movie that’s the day i decided i want to be an actor, from that day on i faced so many challenges. The first one from my own community who was making fun of me telling me u are black and u are African you didnt learn acting and u think u gonna make it? well they were not hating they were trying to be realistic because in Thailand the market is influenced by what is white they have a preference not only Thailand but the whole Asia so the brotherhood was trying to convinced me that i actually have more chance dealing drugs or doing scam than trying to make it there but i didnt want to i decided to work hard on my skills to be that guy if i step on a casting they wont care about my origin but indeed saying this guy is too good we cant pass on him and few years later it finally happened i remember the first job i was casted over any other races i felt so good i wanted to prove them wrong to show them wrong and to inspire the next african generation coming to this country that they can become who ever they want and nowaday Thailand is different and am so proud to see many africans here now doing different things we used to be labelled 15 years ago as only either drug dealers or scammers and am proud when the new comers here come to me and say thanks for representing us. I know there is still a long way to go casting for black people here happened once in a while and mostly will be african american but i still have that impact and i have seen a director changing a character from white to black after casting me in 2017 it was christopher cain director of the next karate kid and father of dean cain. Today i know am one of the best actors here and those who told me i was crazy to think about being an actor are proud of me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well most of people come to Thailand to see their beaches yes they are beautiful but if i have my best friend coming for a week i will take him first to ayuttaya to see the old temple how beautiful is the architecture then up to the north in chiangmai which for me its the best place in Thailand to visit the white temple how its facinating and read all those stories about the society nowaday on the different part of the wall also the nature there is so beautiful the hills the mountains the forest the falls its just amazing

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Micheal Madsen and Jason Statham that i had the chance to work with. For Micheal Madsen we had a scene where he improvised and people gave me credit to my reaction that changed my way of acting till today, for Jason Statham from observing him i learned how important was to stay focus and have a good discipline in life. To peter whatnot and who was a great support when i started to act to Charles Onken who has been a great support to me during my developing process, to Russel Geoffrey Banks and David asavanond for making me understand what is really acting, and finally to Ron Smoorenburg for teaching me stunts and finally to my guy Alex Winters for being very supportive.
