We had the good fortune of connecting with Charli Arkle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charli, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am originally from a small city in Western Sydney, Australia. I made the decision to pursue a career in Los Angeles at the age of eighteen, and I’ve been working in the industry here ever since!

While growing up in Australia, I didn’t feel particularly connected to my hometown or my upbringing. However, it wasn’t until I moved to Los Angeles that I realized how significant these aspects were to my identity. The experience of moving across the world has taught me so many things about myself both personally and creatively. I found myself missing parts of home that I hadn’t even realized I was appreciative of before.

Having spent most of my life with the same circle of people, I was quite sheltered from the rest of the world. It’s crazy to consider that it took leaving that environment behind for me to learn so much about what makes me ‘me’.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Growing up, performing was like second nature to me—there was nothing that brought me more joy. But it wasn’t until my late teens that I really started taking it seriously, realizing my hobby could actually become my career. Back then, my attempts at creating art were more about making myself fit into somebody else’s shoes.

Then, I made the move to Los Angeles, and everything changed. Suddenly, I had the space to figure out who I really was and the freedom to create art that felt genuinely me. It’s been a journey of personal and artistic growth that I’m incredibly proud of.

There have been a lot of milestones (like shows, jobs and contracts) that I am proud of, but I am most proud of finding my voice through my art. I’ve now started writing and become more open to sharing what I create. I’ve been really inspired by the people I have met here in Los Angeles. They have pushed me to explore new avenues, take risks, and with their encouragement, helped me gain confidence in self expression.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Watching the sunset at Leo Carrillo Beach has now become one of my favourite things to do, especially during the summer. There’s a great spot up on the rocks that my friends and I love to sit on and watch the sunset. We usually pack some snacks and blankets, go a little early to swim and then finish the night watching the sunset. At Huntington Beach there’s also these little bonfire pits that are great during the summer!

My friends and I are also big Taco Tuesday fans. We have recently been branching out to find new places to eat and drink, but our staple has always been El Tejano. They have good drinks and games!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I will forever be grateful to my parents. My parents have always been super supportive of this crazy dream I have. My father especially has devoted countless hours driving me to dance, voice and acting lessons, sacrificing so much for me to be where I am today. They continue to do their best to support me from across the world.

My teachers have been equally impactful both personally and professionally. I’ve had some super influential teachers who have now become mentors who I still turn to consistently. Their support and belief in me has been a driving force in the growth of my career pursuits. Their impact on my life has been immeasurable. Now, as I continue my journey as a teaching artist myself, I can only hope to inspire and empower my students just as my teachers did for me!
