Meet Marissa Brown | Dancer/Choreographer/Multidisciplinary Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Marissa Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marissa, can you tell us about a book that has had a meaningful impact on you?
I will share Joe Dispenza’s book Becoming Supernatural. I believe we have the power to create our own reality based on our energy and beliefs and I’ve had many of my biggest life achievements come through out of seemingly nowhere while deep in these types of practices.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a biracial, Black and Portuguese, Multidisciplinary artist
My primary language comes from movement of the body and translates into works of live performance, film, installation, photography, and publication
Creating and sharing intimate moments of expression
Prompting moments of human interaction and relatedness
I want to create Warmth, Intimacy, Emotional Landscapes
I will use Sensuality, Vulnerability, Beauty, Courage
An unfolding from the heart
Depth excites me
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The Ocean. I also love a cute high quality coffee/tea shop like Maru, Kumquat, or Anima Mundi
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I will shoutout Janaye Brown, my sister, I love that we are both finding our way as artists in this world and her work and expression is an inspiration to me
Dimitri Chamblas is one of my favorite people, I feel lucky to work with him and be inspired by his career and feel his encouragement and support of me
