We had the good fortune of connecting with Abi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abi, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started my business because I wanted to make things to help others. I wanted to create things that made people smile and feel better. I wanted to be creative and create things that felt authentic to me. I was encouraged by a close friend to start a business. He recognized I had the skill and knowledge and helped guide me to starting my own business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is very cute and colorful. I think I differentiate myself from others by creating disability items in a wide range of fun designs. I believe that disability items should be fun and shouldn’t be depressing to look at.

I worked very hard to get where I’m at. I started out with pins and stickers. Then 3D printing plant pots and other items. And working work resin and candles. And eventually started focusing on clothing and accessories. It wasn’t an easy journey, I overcame the challenges by believing in myself and working very hard. I learned that it’s important to support others and build a community. That it’s so important to build a brand that people can trust. I want people to know that my brand is about helping others and creating things that makes people feel better.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friend to the Calgary Zoo! I personally love animals. I would take them to Prince’s Island Park as well depending on the weather and season. In the summer, it’s a nice area to walk filled with flowers. I would take them to the Farmer’s Market too to check out the local produce.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
