Meet Sayak Das | Recording Artist / Producer / Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sayak Das and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sayak, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I moved around a lot when I was a toddler but I ended up growing up in Columbus, Ohio. Being raised in the Midwest naturally introduced me to a lot of the local hardcore music scenes in the area. I’m the first in my family to be born in the US, so I grew up in an environment that straddled my cultural background (India) and US culture. This lead to my interest in things such as the local hardcore scene and rock music in general. I spent my youth starting bands with friends in school and doing everything I could to play shows. My parents pushed me into classical piano when I was 3 years old as well, which set the stage for my love of music. I’ve been making / writing / performing music ever since.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My musical background set me up to be a genreless artist in the modern day. I’ve taken my rock influence and combined it with my alt-rnb tendencies to create a sound that I feel is unique and fresh. The creative process is constant trial and error so I’m endlessly looking for the next “thing”. I feel well rounded though, and my music through the years reflects my growth and maturity as an artist. I’ve learned to trust the process and let go of the obsession of results – everything comes as it should and letting that happen is the only way to reach my full potential.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spot to go with my friend group is either Zebulon, Rhythm Room, or Golddiggers. Just about every music venue in LA is a go-to as well. Typically, we’re at one of our houses jamming or just hanging out. Occasionally I’ll hit the beach as well!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s so many people that deserve their flowers for their role in my story. First and foremost, my parents have always provided for me and have supported me through school and all my endeavors. I would not have been able to go down this path without their support. While they may not have understood what I was getting myself into until recently, they did everything I could to make sure that I could see my dreams through. I’ve been in many bands throughout the years and anybody who I’ve been fortunate enough to play with is someone that deserves all my thanks. My manager, Nina Musolino, has had my back long before my career was bearing any fruit and has consistently kept me on the grind and accountable for myself for the past few years. My current band consists of the most amazing musicians I’ve ever met – they’ve all gone above and beyond to assure my success. I would not be anywhere without these people.
